Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

Question

I have a question to all here that seem to have more information than I can find...

I just read a post regarding layoffs starting November 28th. Is this the layoffs that just took place August 28/29? Or is this another round that is planned? General consensus among my co-workers is that they are referring to the most recent layoffs due to affected employees getting 90 days severance. However, the article [https://dailygazette.com/article/2018/08/30/globalfoundries-job-cuts-to-total-455-in-capital-region] said the total number of employees layed off was 455. This seems way too low! This place is empty!

Would love to know why us in Fishkill, included in the Malta layoffs, were only given 2 months as opposed to 3 months on the books in Malta? I send a note to the WARN site and was told there is a confidential investigation? Sounds like a load of c-ap to me...

Nov 28th/29th layoffs probably refer to the August 28th exercise that happened based on 90 day severance . It is the company's way of keeping the layoff under wraps , otherwise the moment they file the state notification, the entire company will know before the actual event.

However how the numbers are distributed is a question. In June , there was an earlier layoff comprising of 5% of the entire Global employee population. All this add up to a VERY high number.

Finally , there is NOTHING to be relived about. Considered the ABSURD number of high level management remaining, a 3rd layoff is ALMOST necessary soon. Likewise the business situation is getting worse from day to day.

455 excludes H1Bs and those hired less than 6 mo ago. The number I have been hearing is 478

There are likely several reasons why the seems empty of workers, layoffs, firings, resignations, no/low new hires and many more chiefs than Indians. The layoff reference to Nov 28 is the date employees who were notified in August (28th) they were being laid off because they received 90 days severance in addition to other benefits. That number was about 455. Add that to the employees who were laid off in June 2018 of which there were about 130 in Malta. Employees with low performance and for other cause -fired (no package). Likely there is a hiring freeze in effect causing further reduction in employees because GF has an extremely high turnover rate due to low morale, poor management, lower than industry pay, etc. So, many more people walking out the door instead of in the door.

Plenty of management oversight (micromanagement) Deputy Directors, Directors, VPs, SR VP... many managers, fewer workers. Why would someone choose to work here? It seems to be “game over”
