Bangor is one of the best factories GE has and I doubt it is closing. It is by far the most efficient site out of Greenville and Schenectady.

Not for nothing if this is true it would be a great idea. Schenectady can do everything they can do and more.

I heard that Bangor has been closed. Can anyone confirm? The writing is on the wall. We are two steps from disaster. Our foot is on the cliff. It's hanging by a thread. There is no time for tea. It's see ya later alligator. In a while crocodile.

They lease Bangor's shops. On the otherhand Schenectady's site is one step from a super fund site, they will never sell it. If you go there, don't drink the water!

Former Bangor knuckle dragger here. Bangor has been an important location, but anything goes. I think the union is done in Schenectady, so the Bangor employees would be asked to relocate, but beware of the cost of living difference. And in that case, they will have you re-apply at a different pay rate. They will lay off and pick and choose who they want, and that's a smart move on their part. Any machine that Bangor has came in on a truck, and can be moved to anywhere on a truck. Don't be fooled thinking GE won't spend huge money to empty the shop out....they just lease from the city. It is expensive to make parts in Maine, the transport, the worker's comp, and the capital goods tax. The only reason Bangor was kept was to off set the union in NY. That union is all but done. The rotor shop would be the one they move. Diaphragm shop's work can be sub'd out to other shops very easily. The G mills are floor mounted and could be put anywhere. You will also be competing with Greenville employees if it comes down to that. Another thing to keep in mind is that if GE has another credit rating down grade, that will effect how they get material. Aviation is holding the company up right now, and have 4 new huge contracts. But if you can't raise money on the stock, and the creditors want COD, and there isn't the cash to pay for the material, the doors close. I'd have plan B and C in my hip pocket. And plan on leaving the state if you want to make the same living you do now. Good luck everyone.....well accept for a few of you a--holes.....some deserve it!

Yes this is the rumor here in Greenville. Mgmt keeps saying no but I can see the writing on the wall. I just hope they give us the opportunity to move if we get laid off.

Anything is possible, and the most bat guano insane scenarios are likely. The only certainty is uncertainty.

I believe they have spin bunkers and capacity in Schenectady for the Bangor work, I guess with the meatball anything is possible at this point.
