The biggest alarm signal is not just that the cost of these products keeps shrinking, but the way people are printing has also changed. Black and White pages are shrinking by double digits every year and color pages are barely flat. Yet price erosion continues. Who would have ever thought that color pages would get to 2 or 3 cents a page? Its unbelievable. The Xerox services business has been facing headwinds for a very long time. The field is still writing toe deals to barely provide any real services at all to customers, yet they call it a services deal. The talented people who knew how to sell services have left the company...serious brain drain. There are organizations that have eliminated printing all together...in high tech areas-no printers, in call centers no printers, in hospitals almost no printers, in financial institutions - eliminating printers...the list goes on. Organizations do not want what Xerox is selling...plus they have alienated customers with poor decision making. When Xerox customer service went from the best to barely in the running, that was the kiss of death. That is why Icahn is smart to break this company up and sell it from an investors perspective.
