Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Maybe a union is a good idea

What a shame! All the stores seem like they are going through the same things... truthfully, it's time for a union. Look, the stores all going part time- too many chiefs, not enough Indians that know anything, still the same amount of freight, customers, tasks to do, the company asks more and more, without giving anything back to us.. working conditions are getting worse- part timers call off, or are no call no show, nothing happens to them and they also choose when they get to work basically. Rotations, possibly the worst idea ever... if you are full time, you pay for getting I weekend a month off and opens, closes, clopens all in the same week! Really what is good about this company, other than it's a pay check. There is no pride, or loyalty left here. Good luck everyone.

What a laugh! Two cents an hour is pure BS. Unions and companies make strange bedfellows. BOTH take advantage of employees - especially hourly workers.

Union dues “averages out to around 0.02 an hour”? Lol.

Unions are for the week and inept. It’s a matter of survival of the fittest. I would rather succeed or fail on my own, and not give away my, or your right to do so, whether it be to a union, corporation or to a lesser extent, a snotty nosed, policy wonk middle manager.

Service and Support managers get no bonus unless they SSEI just like DMs, but I agree that there needs to be some more entry level managerial positions in the stores. Each Service Manager needs a Team Lead in each department. Right now there is no way to identify new managerial talent.

As far as the Part Timers taking over instead of Full Timers, that seems to be standard practice for a lot of retailers now. I seriously doubt you will see any retailer start increasing its full time count any time soon. They make cuts for short term gain only to have it cause issues later on and then they think the answer is to cut again, It's a vicious cycle.

As for unions, there isn't any guarantee that a union would fix the problems. If anything it could make them worse. If the new CEO is genuine and listens to the people in the stores he is visiting you may see some turn around like more floor level leadership like Department Supervisors or Sales Floor Leads. He already got rid of a lot of people that made some terrible decisions like the guy who brought in Sterling.

Well now my previous comment disappeared so I'll keep it short and simple this time and if it's removed again I'll just come back and post it again every day.

-Union dues really aren't much at all it averages out to around 0.02 per hour and I'd be more than happy to pay that for that company to be forced to face their workforce. My store is certainly down with the idea which greatly surprised me since we're in the south.

Unions have dues, Lowes isn’t going to increase your pay so you can pay union dues and take ho e the same amount each week. My Lowes is just down the road from a supermarket where the employees voted to unionize. After they pay their union dues their take home pay is less than minimum wage.

While Lowes may s---, a union is not the answer, getting out is. There are employers who treat employees with kindness, dignity, and respect. Have you noticed that now that the department managers are gone there is no “middle class” at Lowes. There are managers and peons now; managers get the bonuses while the peons do all the work.
