Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Another EOI

Just a friendly reminder our CFO uses EOI against employees, so if you’re in his organization, be careful.

1lgo - you are misinformed. EOI counts the same as a layoff and has the same benefits. It would all count towards a warn, but given the total numbers are already determined regardless where they come from, voluntary or not, the warn would have already been issued if the numbers were higher than what triggers it.

Original OP here:

If you put your name in for EOI, and are selected, you are eligible for unemployment benefits. We notify the state you we’re layed off when this happens.

This is the OP:

At an October 2015 townhall meeting, our current CFO, defending his actions on personally approving/disapproving each and every EOI selection, said, “I’m not going to pay good people to leave, or people who are about to leave anyway, severance”. There are still plenty of us here that heard him say that. Ask around.

When he became CFO, and we had the 2016 EOI, there was a finance managers “selection” meeting for layoffs. Our CFO told these managers not to bother sending for his EOI approval “any employee that has received a “1” or “2” rating in the last two years, or anyone about to leave the company, because I won’t authorize it.” He also told them any Hi-Pot employees that put their names in for EOI would be taken off the hi-pot list because he wasn’t going to reward people who were going to leave the company soon. If you can find a finance manager who was at the meeting, they can verify this, but good luck, because they’re all afraid for their careers.

Last, if you don’t think I know what I’m talking about, look at my “July 26” post below from a month below. Everything I put there has come true. The reason for the second tier of the ELT will be announced before March 1, 2019.

Does anybody know whether or not you’re still eligible to receive Texas unemployment benefits if you volunteer for the EOI and are let go?

People who EOI do NOT count towards the number used to determine if a WARN notice is required. A warn notice is required if 500 or more people experience an employment loss at the same employment site (in this case, Houston). An employment loss is, in part, defined as "an employment termination, other than a discharge for cause, voluntary departure, or retirement." The only reason the company offers EOI is so they are counted as a voluntary departure. This means that the total headcount reduction can, and likely will, be more than 500 even without a WARN notice. By volunteering you are helping the company cut MORE positions. Another reason to not EOI.

Unfortunately you wont get a serious answer to your question.

Most likely the poster had a 4 or 5 rating, put in an EOI and was surprised they were canned for inept behavior instead of getting their 60 weeks of pay.

Do people who EOI and get let go count against the number used to see if a WARN notice is required?

qdp - that is were I was a few months back and am so happy I left when I did. COP is not even close to the company I went to work for over 20 years ago. Prayers for all my friends left in boring, dead end jobs.

I could care less how our CFO allegedly uses EOIs against employees in his organization. I don’t work in his organization, but what OP wrote is probably true. All I know as a 20+ year employee with this once great company is that the time has definitely come for me to raise my hand. I would rather be given a shot at receiving 60 weeks severance than to put up with all of the lies and unethical behaviors that are being promoted internally within the Lower 48. So who is to blame? I honestly believe it’s not the ELT, it’s middle management who live and breathe their own lies on a daily basis. The spin doctors are definitely in the EC3 house and they have the ELT believing their BS....

Or he instructs management to clean up and take out the trash 2 days before the announcement like what happened to me. 15 year career, ended

How is an EOI used against you? Can you describe a scenario? This is a serious inquiry.
