Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

How is this possible?

I was offered a promotion that comes with more work and responsibilities but barely any pay raise. Is this how promotions work these days? Or did I do something to piss somebody off?

It's just so frustrating to finally get a chance to move up after so many years and them be hit with this sh--.

Hi, I left GE after they "promoted" me to program manager, way more responsibility and stress, with no band change and not one more dollar.

I make 40% more now and have better healthcare and am happier. Leverage the title to get a better job elsewhere.

I'm sorry, but I'll ask. What?

How about show up for a meeting and see you’ve been promoted while viewing a slide show.

Didn’t even ask.

When you say promotion was it merely a band change (LP to SP)? Was it from an individual contributor to a TL or to a manager position. Bottom line is most promotions are going to be in the range of 3-5% depending on where you are within your band and other factors. Opportunity for better raises or more importantly higher pay over time is the payoff. Bottom line is you won't get rich by promotions.

Below link is how much the H1B’s at GE make who are taking US workers jobs because they supposedly have “Skills” to do what US workers can’t. As foreign workers who take US workers jobs they are also immediately able to help leadership improve “Diversity” targets while helping to reduce Pension Liabilities. Also, they help their own over time instead of hiring the best since all of the metrics reward them for taking US workers jobs and overpaying their buddies.

You were promoted to be part of the solution not part of the problem.

Salary increases will come.

It's called a correction. GE has been overpaying for decades and it can't be sustained anymore. When your equal counterpart outside of GE is making easily $5-$10 less an hour for the same compatible job, why pay you so much more? Especially now when everything is falling apart because of the charades they've been putting on for decades? I'm sure the person you are replacing was paid more. If you're lucky enough not to get laid off and you're close to retirement, congratulations! You'll probably make it to retirement. If you have 20 or less years in GE, then get ready for your demotions, because they are coming. You're overpaid position will simply just go away but don't worry because you can bump that other person and go into their spot. We'll just continue the overpay for one more year. Then it's a kick in your wallet as you come back down to the real world. Don't worry, you'll be grateful for it happening because at least you won't be starting overt with another company.

That includes “Indian chiefs” and emigrants brought back by their buddies to be close to their children who are going to undergrad studies here.

Because they need to pay many useless chiefs, not indians...
