Citrix laid off most of the XenServer team a couple of years ago and does nothing to help it gain market share.
Citrix will do the same with XenServer. The best hypervisor in the market!
Here's more about how it works. Nutanix provides the hardware platform for the application if the customer wants to run it on-prem and they provide VDI as a service. They have leapt over Citrix to deliver a hybrid model with no installation required for the VDI parts. Citrix only provides the management parts for VDI and leaves the rest to the customer to install.

More than anything it's just sad :( One of the best Citrix partners gave up hope that Citrix will build anything decent for the Cloud anytime soon but will continue trying to fit square peg into round hole

This puts Nutanix/Frame squarely in competition with and ahead of Citrix for both DaaS and pre-installed on-prem solutions. Nutanix has a marketing machine while Citrix just cares about saving money, useless name changing and fluffy messaging. The Citrix ship is sinking.
