Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Why not wait?

I know of at least two people in my department who quit in the past ten days. This makes no sense to me.

Why would somebody quit on their own right ahead of what we know will be a major layoff round?

Chances are they would have been on the list. So why not wait for the severance?

Stop speculating. If you find a better opportunity then go. That is the way of the capitalist. The business is stagnant at best. Now is a good time to move if a stable opportunity can be found.

Stop for a minute and imagine where you want to be five years from now? Do you think qualcomm is even stable enough to be around in five years? Look at our product pipeline? Is the market big enough to bear marginally improved products to provide enough revenue to support your career ambitions at Qualcomm? Somewhere else?

Carefully examine the honest viability of revenue growth if you decide to leave or stay. Ultimately if people do not buy enough product at either choice, the prospects are grim.

It is wise to "follow the money" as they say but be sensible. Qualcomm will eventually be acquired or merged with someone.

Be honest and true to yourself but do not panic. That will only make thing worse

People will be waiting for years with this strategy because large-scale layoffs are over.

i am about to leave in aug and never thinking about the severence package. i know life will be tough in bay but staying in

a sinking ship will make life more meaning less.. not sure why management are doing here in my department and how they deal with the projects. they definitely need some non talented workers to do the same routine work day by day without any innovation. good luck qualcomm.

Be careful. Back in March when the voluntary layoff notice when out a number of people in our group came forward. I was in a meeting where the SVP was joking, now we know who we need to run off. Basically refused the voluntary layoff to certain individuals and started to treat them like crap so they would just leave, they eventually did. It is well documented on this site, the management team are a bunch of corrupt a holes only looking out for themselves.

Take a hiring bonus and a better job before it goes away!

Also, good luck landing a new job when there is a market glut. First mover advantage, etc.

Maybe they have self respect for their limited time on this planet and left to do something better with their lives.

There’s more to life than a little extra severance money.
