Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

7/31/2018 - Day of Rememberance

I will be calling in sick 7/31, and propose everyone do the same.

A day of remembrance for everyone we've lost. The people we loved to see and work with on a day to day basis.

A day for those of us who remain, to get out and recognize there is life outside of Mattel, and that it will all be alright.

Really. A day for our co-workers!? Come on more than a few of them knew they were milking it. Careers don't last 10-15-20 years anymore. An employee needs to keep doing something that adds value to the whole. So... this is not just for you but for all you reading. If you haven't noticed in your new job, you basically have to hustle more.

We literally had someone pass away very recently at Mattel and yes to that take a moment.

Careful. This all sounds like rumblings of "the u word". Workers don't have power in these companies anymore - we're just oxen pulling carts of money into the board's pockets. You might think your job is toy design, but really you're only here to make a number tick up in a handful of accounts.

Maybe calling in sick is a new idea to this old layoff problem? Has there ever been push back against these cruel practices before? If we are united we can send a message. This may build the teamwork and comradeship that seems missing.

So the solution is to run and hide, hope it's not our turn during the next round?

The attitude expressed is exactly the reason the company is in it's current situation.

We need to work together, build relationships and camaraderie.

I look around, I see no teamwork, a bunch of people complaining. Where are the new ideas? Everyone just assumes we're going to sit around and wait for our old success to find us again.

oh yeah, join this dummy and you'll all be earmarked for the next layoff. Do you really think they care about you? Do you think Mattel has the feels? No. It is a cold cruel machine that churns out workers like a baby goes through diapers. You are numbers. You are nothing. Ask the humiliated now ex coworker how they feel. Or do you not want to call them in case your boss hears and you're branded a sympathizer?
