Just remember that layoffs are even more stressful for HR than they are for the people being let go.

If they have the offer in the severance package for the insurance after your severance runs out make sure you sign up for that now! it will kick in and double the length of your severance in the event that you don't get a job by the time it runs out. You cannot collect unemployment until it runs out, but file now and let them reject you because you will be in the unemployment system and they will give you a date in the rejection as to when you can start collecting.

Don't be a dummy. go through the package and take everything that is offered and exploit it to it's fullest.

There's no substitute for moderate alcoholism and dark humor. ;)

Granted a 6-month emergency fund in cash and significant savings rate is helpful too, but I understand that's not easy for many/most.
