Thread regarding University of Phoenix layoffs

42 Days until 9/1/2018

Enrollment numbers continue to decline; IT improvements are talked about but are constantly delayed. In certain departments staff is promoted who are not even putting in a 40 hour work week. So, Mr Pres. who should be 'laid off' next? Perhaps you should look harder at upper management instead of the staff who are actually doing their daily tasks. Bring in some new thinkers who aren't stuck in past and are willing to work with newer apps and ideas.

I got my letter yesterday. I don’t understand why since I was a contract online facilitator. If I don’t have a class then I cost them nothing. The reason they gave was I had not had a class in past 6 months but the reason for that was they never offered me one. I was with them for 9 years and the last few years only got offered one class per year.

To UgWEzeM-xbf............please note I qualified my observation by asking what "self-respecting, qualified, experienced, talented, people". I agree with you that $ driven folks would find the comp attractive and probably would not be phased (much) by the culture and reputation, or they plug their noses and can't small the stench. Few people who earn $150-175K plus here are likely to leave, especially if they are a product of the machine, i.e., have a bunch of Phoenix degrees and the Phoenix virus. I can attest that the market is highly unlikely to offer/provide the same level of comp unless the person's education is np and outside the subprime market. The days of jumping to another subprime institution at the same salary level are rapidly diminishing.

9/11...could be. Some of the previous layoffs were on a Tuesday. But I really doubt they'd choose that date. That would just be cruel.

I heard 9/11. I’m not coming to work that day, could be scary with all the Arabs that work there now, security should be checking bags and lunch pales. But I’m definitely calling in

If you reduce to profit we will be a Circut City. We cannot compete in a school market, we need to build a new market. Good thing about being at the bottom of the market is we have all the opportunity to improve. I would say employee owed, but we don’t have any value left. Let’s build, not reduce!

Ahhhhh. Just like my real estate days. It’s the same feeling and it will produce the same results of the 2006-ish collapse. UOP is just dying a slow, painful death. But, it’s okay, I am still collecting my check with minimal work. Jokes on UOP!

Wonder why America is no longer a leader in innovation, technology, manufacturing anymore? Its because of UOPX style management rampant amongst most big companies. 100 VPs 25 Mgrs to 30 reps. No interest in upgrading systems or doing whats best for customer. Paying off the politicos so everyone can claim UOPX is legit. Adding no value or sustenance to the community just tricking the gullible to fork over cash for nothing in return. America is Great again...lol!!! Hahahaha

I can’t believe this is still happening. People need to boycott this place and run them out of town. All they do is crush people’s dreams and cause uncertainty.

Yeah this place is definitely going down fast. I remember in 15 when everyone in my office but myself and one other were cut. Terrible, people were crying and a few on the verge of violence. One by one were called in as the reports came out. It was fast, too fast. But I’m really scared this year. They say this new company is going bankrupt too.

Few people would compromise their ethics and join at the top? Have you paid attention the last 7 years?

In response to @UgWEzeM.........what competent and skilled assets is UOP likely to attract to fix anything? Would you go to work for UOP knowing its reputation and status? I imagine a few mercenaries might if the $ are attractive enough and there is a parachute. Few self-respecting, qualified, experienced, talented, people would make such a compromise with their ethics and values.

C-Level will never kill its own. There might be a symbolic departure, but that is all. This is not endemic to UOP. Seldom do flailing organizations cut at the top. It is always the sinew of the organization that gets cut which simply reinforces the vicious downward spiral. You will know it is the end when C-Level folks bail. They have no reason to do so now. UOP pays very well at the top and many are fearful they cannot replicate the income so they will hang on as long as possible. And some have parachutes to enable a soft landing. It makes little sense to continue to cut enrollment, advising, and what remains in academics, but that is what will happen and it will hasten demise not stop it. The history of organizations who cut while declining such as those in UOP's situation is clear: they advance decline rather than reverse it. It is ironic that in a recession companies cut sales staff. This is when they are needed the most. Their record of success - wait, there isn't one.

It's far too late, sadly, for students and staff who have put in so much effort.
