Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

Beginning of the end?

Anybody else feels like this was the start to the end of the company? Too many good people lost, too many projects crippled... How exactly are we supposed to continue with work now as if nothing has happened?

I honestly can't see how this can in any way work out for GF.

GF is just beginning? Huh? Every other fab is more than 15 years old, not a lot of money in high volume low value parts. Dresden would probably be closed if it weren't for the Eurotrash Labor laws.

I am sure TC is set for life with his bonus for cutting costs in 2018 while he screwed the lives of more than a 1000 people. Yeah, he's a real "gutsy" guy for taking the "hard road" of the layoffs.

The blame IBM game is getting old and misinformed. Quite simply Abu Dhabi does not want to waste money losing to TSMC anymore like it has in the past decade. IBM/AMD is the only thing making Malta money and thus now Malta's day are numbered, but GF is just beginning.

What a disaster this has been. Breaking this enterprise is Tom's goal. What was said and promised at the Globalcast?

IBM Microelectronics was rated as the Industry worst foundry by the customers and been losing big on the older technology nodes. 3 years ago IBM had to pay GloFo $1.5B in cash to take the loss-making unit off its hands. The same mgmt team that tanked IBM Microelectronics are doing the same at GF - you figured it out?
