Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Was just offered a job at SYW corporate, isn’t there a future there?

From reading these boards it seems not, any advice?

Here at SHC, recent hires, normally they get a very good compensation. If you did got that then accept the job. I see many recent hires freshly come out of school, at least in STEM field, got pay more than their peers who went to work in the city, according to data from the job sites. Here, some don't even study in field they are working. If I weren't getting good pay myself I would have left long ago. No 401K match so you better get more pay otherwise you are shorting yourself. They are in predicament, take advantage of it if they offered you a job. Once you got the job it is very hard to ask for a raise unless you already secured another job then you can bargain for. Remember every body at SHC now is looking out for themselves. My boss even told me to do that and get ready for any moment notice. We are operating on the need to know now. Once your project is done, pretty much wait for the next round of layoff. But that's life, we learned to live with it for so many years. Once I got my severance I'll travel like my friends who left before me.

Take the job! And be prepared to be laid off at any time.

I work on the sears side and remember when the shop your way Team were rubbing their hands at the billions they were going to make from Peruto Rico after the hurricane, sick people so you should stay away-they never did make their billions from the suffering

The job market is pretty good right now. I am sure you can find something better. Even if Sears offers a bit more than other employers for a similar position, turn it down and go elsewhere. In a year from now you will be sorry if you take the Sears job. They haven't paid raises in over 3 or 4 years, only a select few get raises....no 401k match and the medical insurance is very high compared to other employers. I know all of this because I used to work there. The only positive is they have very flexible work arrangements but that's about all.

It's a temp role at best. Having SHC on your resume may not impress future hiring managers, tho.

Odds are you will need a job in February of 2019. But you can get experience to go somewhere else.
