Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Why are deliveries so late all the time?

Anyone else experience this from Walmart carriers? What is going on with Walmart’s logistics?

What did Greg Smith do that was so bad? Did he lay off a bunch of drivers?

Walmart has lost 2400 drivers due to the stupidity of Greg Smith. They also closed the Southeast Roc and the Western Roc and have people dispatching that do not know the areas. The driver shortage was self inflicted.

I heard the industry underpaid drivers and now there is a shortage.

I also heard that Walmart is purposely running short on drivers as a cost cutting measure.

Is any of this true? Any drivers around here?

To the last responder: Thank you for a very intricate, thoroughly researched and comprehensive package of insights into exactly WHY this once fine company is circling the drain-----ever faster and deeper. O-o

Walmart hired who was never in transportation (because the decisions sold by them were absurd and self destructive, and now they are reeling from the fallout caused and apologizing, asking for people to return etc who they ran off-i'll explain) Walmart has the largest domestic CDL truck driver fleet and the safest and in the past and recent years considered the elite driver pool. As Walmart seeks to improve its market leverage and deal with the dot.com types like Amazon in order to maximize capital to provide avenues for investments into new online competitive markets, they hired somebody who knew nothing about truck drivers, or transportation history and industry. So they hounded our best fleet of drivers in the industry, made all sorts of absurd changes, and began some structural cuts as well, and eventually their over-reach forced them to contract out to hire foreign drivers to carry Walmart freight through the network. These dopes didn't even separate the meat from produce in their trailers, they just stand there parroting "hey dude, I didn't load it"... JB Hunt is the laughing stock of transportation, but that's who they replaced the safest fleet in the country with, rookie drivers with no experience and no clue about food regulations etc. Then after realizing from the massive departures of Walmart drivers, long time safe and reliable fleet drivers, they began begging them to return. Long story short, they hired an id--t, who has no idea about how to deal with truck drivers, what it means to organize a national fleet of transportation hubs and distribution centers, and that doesn't address the impact to the retail outlets which now will suffer and cause sales losses. If anyone knows this person they brought on, to make these line haul changes, please notify them, they have provided the most crippling and counter productive input into a multi-billion dollar Forbes 500 company in history. Perhaps they should have hired someone who has a clue what he is doing? Either way, expect continued issues with deliveries, and talk to your drivers, they told me all about all of this. And they are talking to each other. Question is? Are the eggheads in Bentonville talking to anyone with a clue. Sam understood drivers. Oh but he's dead then isn't he? You depleted the best fleet in the country, now you are hiring second class drivers, and the accidents, violations and liabilities and retail sale losses most importantly from late arrivals and forced live loads, back hauls and knee jerk loading errors due to dispatching failures or inabilities will cost FAR more than any long time safe driver who never missed, in the old system. It weren't broken, till you broke it. Now we all pay....lost sales-more accidents, fines, etc. Somebody get a grip this morning. Don't do dumb things like this going forward. I get the whole push to adapt, please find someone who can discern between stupidity and careful innovation. Its not hard to tell the difference from out here.
