ET Hubs being ruined by BLM transplants

Before the hub, I'm located at and work in ET, was full of people doing work(programming, testing, designing) at shared spaces. In the last couple of weeks those spaces have been replaced with people staring at the same email or discussing essentially nothing, maybe 3 people actively involved in conversation of the 10 in the room.

The incident that set me most off gaurd was witnessing a manager recently relocated from BLM YELL at two of the most commonly seen guys for one accidentally badging the other in and them having to switch badges to let the 2nd in. Everyone knew these guys from before moving buildings, and those from before the new building have all heard this story and about how anal many from HQ are. Before was a sense of family. Now we have these strangers yelling at others for minor security violations.

Our strongest developer is leaving with the smartcards being pushed to Macs and I'm probably next. It was great while it lasted 2014-2018.5.

Hubs are supposed to be diverse, but they're turning into mini-BLM, at least in ET. 50% of people came from BLM. Those that "started" the culture of the hubs are leaving because people from BLM are ruining it. I can count on 1 hand the number of managers hired directly from our hub, and none of them are under 35.

Yes, butt-hurt is a ridiculous way to describe anything (except maybe a terminal hemorrhoid), but as long as we're using the word, it could just as easily apply to the OP as to any of those who responded in kind.

I can't believe all the butthurt BLM people on this thread. As someone who worked at both locations as Java developer I can say it's my professional opinion that BLM workers can't program.

There are a few exceptions, a few gems like myself and friends. The problem is that State Farm thinks they can put someone without a CS degree (or even worse an Indian visa worker) through a 3 month course and have a developer come out the other end.

I went to school for 4 years to get the skills I have. Please BLM get real

Im sure poster you are a hard worker. But that wonderful hub culture you cite is the one responsible for switching us to the new absence policy a few years ago. That is Because the hubs were training all these people, they were taking all their available time off, which was too geberous for their service length, and then quitting. So let’s don’t talk about work ethics of others. Not all, but a lot of those people in Bloomington built this company into what it is today. They also put up with tons of wasted hours and dollars by our leader ship working days, nights and weekends on projects they truly believed in that were then canceled because our inept leadership didn’t know what direction to take. If they had asked many of these folks what direction to take and trusted them to solve problems, many of them could have taken them in a positive direction. So I would suggest that you be a friend and be kind to others and try to assimilate them into the new environment. It will go better for all of you if you do that.

Never badge in (tailgate) another employee. There's a reason for this. It's not a "minor" security issue.

I don't work for SF but am retired military and federal law enforcement. It just takes one incident to destroy people's lives.

The people from BLM have some of the best work ethics of anyone you've ever worked with. Please take note before you roll off in 2 years.... believe me the BLM folks will probabaly be taking their skills to other employers in the area in the near future for more pay.

Give it time. Be a beacon of hope. BLM people have been dealing with 10 months of fear and stress; worrying about having a job, where it will be, getting retrained, then going through a move process. I don't know of any that are moving against their will, and most of us are excited, but frankly we're exhausted. Management is already saying 'when you all get here then..'...bam bam bam bam..but we really need about a month's vacation to recover mentally. BLM was a family too before all this and there's no reason we can't all grow into a new one. Don't give in to the us vs them mentality...that's counter to the welcoming diversity claim. I'm welcoming the added diversity and being further away from the suits.

Yep. The Hubs themselves are part of the problem -- just more insanity by a group of executives that haven't made a good decision in nearly a decade.

To hear people at the hubs complaining about losing their culture -- when their culture has existed for how long exactly? -- is sort of ridiculous.

State Farm is the most strict company I've ever worked for in terms of building security, and that's NOT just in BLM. It was also at the satellite offices. I worked WAY outside of Bloomington and it was routinely hammered into our heads that "you do not badge in your co-workers."

Another thing to keep in mind: People coming from BLM are probably p-ss-d off, and with good reason. They've been moved to another city under duress, and with zero faith that the move will be for the good of the company, since nearly every decision made by the executives for the last 7 years has been a huge misfire.

And keep in mind, these are the same executives that built the hubs.

One person badging in another is not a minor incident. You want to stay safe in a company that has high stress and has armed guards because the company is concerned about a nut job hurting someone? Follow security procedures and ensure others do also. It DOESNT matter if everyone knows the person, there may be a reason their badge doesn’t work. Just ask the folks at YouTube! Also, I should state that I am no longer an employee, and haven’t been for some time. I really DGAF if SF employees are following protocols. I’m so happy to have escaped the hellhole. But I can’t let someone complain about security protocols being bypassed when there is good reason for it. Come on, use your brain, and quit being offended by something someone else did to another person. Watch out for yourself and don’t be a whiny b*tch.

I remember many years ago having just recently graduated from college, one of my father's friends pulling me aside at a dinner party and whispering in my ear, "son you need to get into insurance". "Insurance is where it is at!" Sadly, because I was an engineer, I did not take his advice and I ended up missing an exciting career in the insurance industry.

Very interesting and just what I feared. This is the same reason we can’t work well with or even purchase startups or innovative companies....we must impose our way of doing things. We get too caught up in the how instead of the why and what is being delivered.
