For employees who were laid off or terminated, a healthcare contuance offer is usually mailed to you. Unfortunately, it’s pretty much open market coverage. It was $1,600 per month for my family which put it out of reach for my family. I applied to Affordable Care Act online which is an option for everyone when you lose your job (life change). You can apply immediately after your job loss to review coverage options and gain partial year coverage. In my personal situation, I was subsidized and received family health coverage for $250 per month in my state exchange. Almost immediately after obtaining coverage, a family member needed to go to emergency room after an accident. I paid, $50 copayment and $21 remaining that Blue Cross did not pay from a bill that was thousands. I couldn’t believe it. When I worked for Xerox and I had coverage, a visit to ER cost me thousands out of pocket, even though I had Blue Cross coverage from Xerox. I think we all know things became progressively worse with Xerox self funding insurance. I am not an expert, but wanted to share my experience to those who could probably use a little bit of assurance or guidance. This was a very stressful time in my life and I am eternally grateful for the ACA.

I've found nothing resembling $250 ACA for family coverage. It's almist cheaper to pay the penalty for no insurance and go to the ER and claim I can't pay after services are rendered... You know, like others have done for years...
Wow. That’s great intel. You never know until you go through something like that. Hopefully people heed the advice and take advantage of the ACA if they can.
