Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

At least Walmart is trying

Am I the only one here who is happy that Walmart is at least trying to make things better? Trying to make sure we still exist in the post-Amazon world?

Just look at Sears. It's like they decided to just wait it out until they have to close. Not even an attempt to change something to stay afloat.

Maybe it's just me, but I appreciate that we actually are.

@5gev Maybe OP’s WIFE makes enough money. Or maybe they’re smart and talented enough not to need to s--- the drying, opioid-and-meth-infested NW Arkansas teat.

The original poster is obviously not losing their job or their husband makes enough for them not to worry. No f--- you I'm not happy Walmart is trying. "Trying" is laying people off and expecting less people to do more work you stupid c--t.

They don’t intend to have people running the stores for much longer. Look at Doug’s announcement about a machine run picking system for grocery pick up.

If they can figure that out, they can figure out cashierless stores. Amazon is already testing that.

DCs that don’t need people are next.

The writing is on the wall. Automation is going to end a lot of jobs.

When you don’t treat your employees like assets you’re going to go down!

The stores are bleeding experience!

I would appreciate the effort if the leadership wasn’t driving the company into the ground faster with bad decisions.

They are dead set on making customer experience worse with lack of labor, sku cuts, and inventory rationing.

This will literally drive our customers to our competitors faster. And the sad part is that a lot of these mistakes have been made by other failed companies. But our leaders are apparently not a student of retail history.

Yes! The management is in a total CYA mode. I am in no way defending their actions, merely pointing out it’s out of their control.

To 'Walmart will survive..' What you describe as management doing evaluations on tech staff, from what I've seen of WM's calibre of managers, this is as sickeningly unfair as life gets.

There is an assistant at @2 in Decatur, Il named Crystal K who literally screwed and s---ed her way into her job. I.Q. wise? She has none. Brain dead flat battery on a cold morning, and with all the charming personality of a r----ded kid pulling legs from grasshoppers. I've seen her burn alive countless good associates, and the idea that 'people' like her will now have that same power over the top shelf quality staff?

As nauseating. as her meth-scarred face.

Walmart will survive. Unfortunately, it has become company first. The upcoming reviews will mandate 20% of tech associates will be ranked “not meeting expectations”. Every manager has to rank and choose. Even if your doing your best and are meeting your goals. What it means is no layoffs yet, however, it also means no bonus, no pay increase.

The layoffs will come after the holiday grind.

Trying to do what? Alienate the customer because they can't keep items in stock? Get rid of the expertise by terminating the most tenured associates and bring in people who can't find their @$$ in the dark with a flashlight? Hire the most incompetent Store Managers? Create policies that fail right out of the gate? All of the above is a winning strategy for sure.

Two things working against Walmart. 1.) Amazon. 2.) Retail brick & mortar as a whole never recovered fully from the recession.

Sears did restructuring jobs, job eliminations, store closures, tv/sport sponsorships (i.e. Extreme Makeover Home Edition ) to stay afloat. Walmart is doing the same thing with even more restructuring jobs, more job eliminations, more store closures, tv/sports sponsorships (i.e. Master Chef) to stay afloat.

Unfortunately overall the retail brick & mortar climate is in a very steep decline.

Yes , great for the Walton family and old Doug McMillionare.

Not so good for the poor employees over the years that made the company what it is.
