Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

How to right size the organization

Obliterate technology. Obliterate exploration. Significantly reduce RP/RC teams. Each implementation RE/geo pair should manage 4 rigs worth of inventory. Each DE/geosteerer pair should have at least 3 rigs. Each CE should manage 4 rigs worth of frac jobs. Base REs and PEs should manage 3 times more wells than they do now. Land, regulatory, and finance need 2 people per BU and then 1 person per 4 rigs of activity. Contract out all facility engineering work. Only enough support staff (IT, HR, etc.) to support the necesities, drop everything frivolous. 16-20 people report to each supervisor.

This is what the company SHOULD do to compete with its peers. Therefore, this is NOT what this company WILL do.

Just layoff 30% and sell the company. Get it over with already. Tear off the bandaid

What he says pretty much fits the operating size/roles of real independents

OP, what’s your role at the company, which BU? You seem quite confidident to make judgements on jobs you’ve presumably never held yourself.

The worst management that I have seen! No accountability at the manager and higher level

Race to the bottom! How quickly can we erode the center and turn into Apache!

Next week: how to stop drooling.

I worked at this place during the boom and left right before it ended. I looked at the org chart while there and EF had about 70-80 split among GEOs and REs and they had 12 rigs going and I thought that was complete craziness. I went to a company that had the same amount of acreage, about the same rig count and we had 14 total with the GEOs and REs....and a lot fewer meetings, managers and more getting things done. Not sure what they have now, but hopefully that has changed.

The OP is mostly full of it, but has one thing right: the closer you are to rigs and barrels the safer your role is. Though even if your role is safe, you will probably be replaced by a high pot if you do not have a differential rating in the last three years. Good luck 🍀 everyone... You are gonna need it!

Why challenge the status quo? At ConocoPhillips, “It’s not just what we do, it’s how we do it” 😎
