I was with COP for 5 yrs, had top notch evaluations, was dedicated and got along with everyone. I was a "put my head down, and do my job" guy. Then management decided to start moving people around "cross training" they called it with no plan in place. You had no choice.
I'm no rookie, been around the block, managed a business and have 30 years work experience. From what my coworkers said, it was a sad day when I quit. If someone is great in their position, they love it, they do extremely well at it, then that person is making the company money. That person is really trying to be as efficient as they can because they enjoy their job. So where is there a problem here?
Then that person is told they are now doing something else, 50% of the time.
What do you think happens to motivation when someone is told, not asked, to fill a position that they worked their butt off to get out of? What happened to the days of working hard and being in a spot you earned? Some reading this may even know who I am and that's fine. I'm doing well and soon off on an exciting adventure because someone else has taken notice of my skills.
When I announced that I was leaving, it was a big surprise, faces were sad and no doubt, mine included. If I would of been left alone doing what I did well, Surmont would of been my retirement job.
To management out there, workers are not puppets. We have lives, we have interests, we have opinions that really should matter. Leave employees alone if they do well in their position. Maybe ask if all is well. Maybe ask if they need tools to better succeed. In the 5 years there, not one single sick day and where did that get me. If things would change there and I had the opportunity to go back, I would if my opinion mattered.
