Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

So tired of this

Anybody else yearning for the good old days when job security was an actual thing here? When I didn't have to worry every single day whether I'll still have a job tomorrow?

This job has turned into a never-ending source of stress that's starting to affect my health. How sad is that?

I was with COP for 5 yrs, had top notch evaluations, was dedicated and got along with everyone. I was a "put my head down, and do my job" guy. Then management decided to start moving people around "cross training" they called it with no plan in place. You had no choice.

I'm no rookie, been around the block, managed a business and have 30 years work experience. From what my coworkers said, it was a sad day when I quit. If someone is great in their position, they love it, they do extremely well at it, then that person is making the company money. That person is really trying to be as efficient as they can because they enjoy their job. So where is there a problem here?

Then that person is told they are now doing something else, 50% of the time.

What do you think happens to motivation when someone is told, not asked, to fill a position that they worked their butt off to get out of? What happened to the days of working hard and being in a spot you earned? Some reading this may even know who I am and that's fine. I'm doing well and soon off on an exciting adventure because someone else has taken notice of my skills.

When I announced that I was leaving, it was a big surprise, faces were sad and no doubt, mine included. If I would of been left alone doing what I did well, Surmont would of been my retirement job.

To management out there, workers are not puppets. We have lives, we have interests, we have opinions that really should matter. Leave employees alone if they do well in their position. Maybe ask if all is well. Maybe ask if they need tools to better succeed. In the 5 years there, not one single sick day and where did that get me. If things would change there and I had the opportunity to go back, I would if my opinion mattered.

Sorry to hear. It does take a toll, whether now or later. There are other options. May not pay as well, but salary does not define you, your happiness, or your worth.

Stress is so high right now that so far this week one person collapsed while presenting and another threw-up in their office. And it is only Tuesday...

I felt that way for a long time. I knew it was killing me, but I never felt comfortable making a change. Getting the boot was the best thing COP ever did for me. Feel much more balanced and not in constant survival mode anymore.

Phillips 66 Company was the same way. Toxic work environments take years to recover from. No amount of money is worth your physical and psychological health.

Life is too precious to waste on a company that could care less about it's Human Resources. It amazes me how the company retains anyone.
