Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

ET revoked ADA WI

So, everything here is true but I have to keep my name out due to the situation still ongoing.

As of the Wave 1 IT Trans in ET, they rewrote all job descriptions to say co-location onsite with your teams is an "essential job function" that cannot be accommodated by telework from home, etc. I have done WFH for years due to permanent disability that has no effect on sitting in front of a PC and on Skype all day. From July 13 to July 14 nothing in my job changed one iota. But I'm told come in, hope for reassignment to a comparable work from home job, or resign. Not resigning, thank you. I know of at least 2 others in the same boat. Employees with DECADES of experience. I contacted a noted ADA lawyer and he wants to hear from others to see what cases we have. I filed an EEOC complaint as well. If you are affected, google Andres Gallegos, a highly experienced ADA lawyer who serves on the National Council of Disabilities. (I get no commission. I'm not trying to get rich. I want to do my job as I have for years.)

So that you can be held on a short leash and monitored like a caged animal. There’s a reason it’s called “Slave Farm”

Four guys chatting, with lunch chits? At Chistmas we always open select a gift last.

The last two hours of my workday today was spent hearing 4 guys chit chatting about sports and what-not. Their butts were in their chairs, on site. Seems like if they were actually each doing work from home instead of yapping in the office, there would be much more productivity. WFH should be offered. If the work is getting done, why does it matter what building you are in?

if you spent as much time on your work as you do on this silly site....you'd still be here with a job

Typo due to seething anger - There is no way even though mgmt told people not to work off the clock, that they did not know what was happening. They could see the dam employee at their desk for 1-5 + hours a week over what they were scheduled for, working through their lunches as well, mgmt was just happy to get more bonuses. Hope you drop into the ocean State Farm, and no one ever remembers your company name or the way you ended up treating your employees, or as you would say "expendables"!

How they try to get you to quit: Told by one of my bosses that his boss told him, basically to not take things too seriously as 80% of the work could be done by a monkey. That same boss had a picture from a team outing of him and my co-worker who was on my team, with the two of them holding hands as we all went down the roller coaster. Then another of my bosses who was a former VT State Trooper, must have been a flunk out, he continued to favor women in my unit, he would print out my file notes on a continual basis and cross out all the words he felt were not necessary, like it, was, him, her, so that things would not be clear what was done in the file, just to save time. I got notified that my sample was picked up as a candidate from the National Bone Marrow Registry and him and the other team boss highly discouraged me from donating as all they were concerned about was business and $$$, NOT if the recipient would DIE! Another of my bosses killed himself, I am sure in part due to State Farms work environment. Another genius thought it would be a great idea for all the employees to do 5 hours of educational learning each month - JOKE! Yet another boss, when someone such as myself would say, I have a very sick pet at home and need to get them to the vet, his only concern was how many people were on phones, which did not matter as the handling was C-ap! Then he wanted each person in the team to put on a 15 minute presentation on another culture as that is the best way to serve them on the phone - BS! You do not need to kiss a.s, and give everyone a translator, or know their customs in order to treat them with respect, and perform quality claims handling, something which State Farm talked about, and that all it was, talk. Phone Dr, about your business, people coming in to give training on things not to say, such as "they tried to gyp me", meaning slang for gypsies, or "the tried to jew me down", meaning a slur on Jewish people. How about we just fire each mo--n that cannot treat people as people, who does not show respect to each customer? you do not need a class for that! We also did not need a class on s-xual harassment, when that was reserved for upper level mgmt and VP's. People were so disgusted with the place they would c-ap all over the toilet seats, and pee from the urinal to the sink just to show how they felt, which only hurt the cleaning people. I saw one mgr on a weekend, going desk to desk taking bottles from peoples work areas, must be they needed to pad their, in case I leave State Farm fund, or just got fired fund. How about one section mgr referring to fellow employees as slugs "we need to crack down on the slackers and get rid of the slugs". The wasted time, money, stress, health issues, which are now permanent and too late to reverse as the damage is already done to the mind and body. Oh and, how about working off the clock, even though told not too, as we needed to keep our numbers up, in fear of getting fired, as everyone was pitted against each other. There is no way even though mgmt told people not to work off the clock, that they did not know what was happening. They could see the dam employee at their desk for 5=1- + hours a week over what they were scheduled for, working through their lunches as well, mgmt was just happy to get more bonuses. Hope you drop into the ocean State Farm, and no one ever remembers your company name or the way you ended up treating your employees, or as you would say "expendables"!

Only a silly or extremely stupid troll would make the nasty comment making comment that WFH is silliness. If SF doesn't allow it, so be it. Some companies actually encourage it.

They removed my remote worker job months ago. Another friend of mine lost his remote gig over a year ago. I didn't even realize there were any remote or telework jobs left in the company.

I've had another job for 3 months now...

I'm not really sure a company can be required to provide a working from home arrangement as a reasonable accommodation for a disability, but I wish you the best of luck. I'd love to see the Farm get sued to oblivion.

Honestly people, most work you do on a computer these days doesn’t require you to be in the office 5 days a week. Unless you’re directly interacting with hardware on site and they need you for that reason, you don’t need to be there daily. Flex agreements are not uncommon and a perk at a lot of companies. State Farm is a sh-- company now that wants everyone on a short leash.

I have heard how they treated the disabled employees in ET in Bloomington and don’t know how there couldn’t be a strong case against State Farm. Best of luck to you!

Thanks interesting because I know of at least three companies that would be consider either large companies or consulting firms that would allow people do what is being described above. I am glad troll cannot think of a legitamate disability like a mobile disability that would require someone to work from home. Also the reason State Farm has given for needing to work from the office (collocation needed for agile) is not a valid reason. People can be remote and agile, the industry proves it.

Be thankful you had the perk you did - as long as did. Good luck finding another organization who would allow this silliness. Can’t come into the office? Can you say scam!
