Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Right, Walmart used to want to be in control of every aspect of its business. Over the last 10 years or so they’ve slowing been changing that. Hiring outside companies to do certain things, GSS, Bridgemart, Sedgwick and I’m sure there’s others...I think half of what HO had for employees on the vision side left Walmart to create bridgemart, which they haven’t done a thing for vision either.. but anyway, DIV 1 is their bread and butter. Maybe they’re just going back to that as their main focus, Walmart isn’t great at anything and they strive to be second best at most. As someone else said it’s smoke and mirrors and if the stockholders don’t see some kind of progress or potential future plans(robots in stores seems to get people excited..) then they’ll sell and move on to something else like amazon.

Yes, it is my belief that health and wellness is dragging down profit badly. They are trying every last effort to control it. That said, it will continue to decline. I do not have a crystal ball, but you don't have to be a mind reader to understand healthcare and costs....etc. Then look at how pharmacy operates and makes a profit. It is all tied together. That is why they are distancing themselves from OTC....first steps towards abandonment.....they may sell the rx's and business , because i dont see wal mart as having a CVS inside of it like target, but thats just my guess. these guys are ruthless and no one is safe at this point.

It’s almost to the point where it seems like they are gonna have the pharmacy’s run as third party, which I believe target did...they took otc from pharmacy right? So now it’s just a box in the store... with insurance reimbursements continuing to decline, it would be easier for them to collect a check from a company leasing the pharmacy space than to have to pay everyone at all levels of health and wellness and maintain inventory..etc.

I am a pharmacy manager at wal mart. It WAS a great job, now it is AWFUL. Health and wellness division has cut to the bone, with the latest round of layoffs happening NOW! as we speak. Staff pharmacists and floaters get ready! here it comes again. Work load has quadrupled, I don't understand how they expect to maintain healthcare like this. Food/Home goods is one thing, but pharmacy? Really? Then they pretend all day to be all about patient safety and well being, overall health....blah blah. It's all tied to money in the end. Through medicare reimbursement and general insurance reimbursement rates....etc. Why do you think in the last 10 years the pharmacies now suddenly "CARE" sooooo much about your health? because we get more money from medicare for keeping patients on there medicine. It's all smoke and mirrors. And don't get me started on this "OPIOD EPIDEMIC". Another smoke and mirror money scam for a lot of people cashing in. If you could only see behind the scenes. Greed at it's finest.

Original poster is correct Customers determine what WalMart does. As long as they continue shopping and spending there money in the stores WalMart will continue doing what they do. Yea customers b--ched about lines so Walmart is adding more self check outs and yep customers flock to them. Eventually the tobacco register will be the only register in Walmart everything else will be self checkouts. Walmart I shop at has about 10 self check outs on each end and one person is able to watch over those 10 registers. Both ends are open thats 20 registers going and 2 people watching over them Thats 18 cashier jobs no longer needed. I believe I read somewhere WalMart is going to be testing a store like the Amazon store and there will be no registers or cashsiers.

Walmart will survive. Unfortunately, it has become company first. The upcoming reviews will mandate 20% of tech associates will be ranked “not meeting expectations”. Every manager has to rank and choose. Even if your doing your best and are meeting your goals. What it means is no layoffs yet, however, it also means no bonus, no pay increase.

The layoffs will come after the holiday grind.

OP you forgot another category of Walmart workers: Just too dumb to work somewhere better. I've known too many people in retail like that. They don't fit the other categories, but they're not smart, not ambitious, and they end up in retail because we no longer have manufacturing jobs where these people can be paid to be human cogs.

If you want to make decent money ese days, you have to offer more value than machines or automation.

Has any body seen how this home office schedule is cutting people who are full time hours. Mine are down to 4 days a week. Can't live on that!
