Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

Is there anything that can be done?

With how low Windstream has fallen, is there even anything that could be done at this point to help initiate a turnaround?

I honestly believe we are too far gone for anything or anybody to save the company from its disastrous downwards trajectory.

There is no future with Windstream, that much should be obvious to everybody.

Blankrup nailed it, switching to software development company - if that isn’t your jam, your going to be gone. Only problem is the company has terrible mgmt and benefits, will never in a million years pull in the outside talent to make their Hail Mary plan work. That and there are less than a handful of qualified people in house to even do more than pontificate about how to actually pull off their latest pipe dream.

Birch communication is what Windstream tried to be and failed hard... Wouldnt surprise me one bit if Birch isn't one of the companies that ends up with some hunk of meat from our former carcass.

If you want to know what will happen to customers on CLEC, look at history. When Birch decided to leave OK/KS/TX/etc., customers were notified they had x days to find a new carrier.

I don't know that we'll go that way. I expect we'll be bought for pennies on the dollar by a competitor.

Nothing really "Concrete" but I think everyone here is speculating based on past track record of WS.

Lots of the posts here point to Thursday , July 12th as D-day. This is based around the facts below.

Things we do know:

The stock is also trading back under $5 (reverse split didn't work)

All of our debt is going to be refinanced on 7/20. (2% higher rate than before)

Our credit rating dropped to Caa1 from B3 and downgraded. ( see above)

Customer churn is up over all (less customers but higher margins)

Q2 earnings are going to be announced the first week of August

Now things we Don't know:

Who is buying the CSMB CLEC service ?

Who is buying the ILEC service ?

Which jobs will transfer to the new company ?

When will WS file for bankruptcy ?

Will UNIT fail and file for bankruptcy if WIN fails?

If Aurelius wins the lawsuit, does WS have to fold?

What does the new WIN look like on the other side of all of This?

We are an Agile development software company not a broadband provider.

Open source everything, no vendors needed

White box CPE deployment (goodbye Cisco and Adtran)

No TDM network.

SDWAN and UCaaS.

Transport will be Ethernet or wireless

Back office will also be open source and in-house solutions (goodbye Oracle)

So what's missing in all of this new reorganization?

Most of Network planning

Most of IP engineering

Most of Voip engineering

On shore support for both Service delivery and Repair.

Field technicians ( plug and play white boxes shipped to the customers)

With all of that said we will be a shell of the company we are today with 80% of the employees who will not be needed.

does anyone have any concrete info about when the next layoff will be? I wish TT and his minions would be up front with the true plans and upcoming layoffs instead of treating the victims like the enemy that can't be trusted to even go back and say goodbye or gather personal stuff up. I have no respect for upper management and most are the useless ones draining the company. But I wish no one harm or revenge for screwing up a good company but treat those who are still there with a little respect for working hard primarily for our customers if not for any other reason. I guess that bad leadership expects hard working employees to be as underhanded and devious as they are.

Being a biz tech with windstream it has taught me one thing........they don’t give a rats a$$ about the customer or even their technicians. What they want is more management. They are so top heavy that nothing gets done anymore. Just a lot of smooth talking idiots telling the people busting it every day in the heat that it’s all going to work out. Pansies...never done an honest days work in their life. If they ever get let go they will have a hard time trying to convince someone else they are a legend that they have built themselves up to be in their own mind. They are nothing, no value, no substance, no integrity. I can’t stand windstream as a company. My brothers in the field I love but the rest can go water skiing with concrete shoes. Read my other posts and see if I don’t make sense

Nothing will happen to customers cause they are already leaving on their own. For every customer windstream gains on the business side, 5 leave for other providers. When you don’t deploy trained technicians in the field and allow a call center to troubleshoot issues, your customers leave. No customer is going to pay outrageous prices for slow speeds, sales people that won’t call them back and shotty support. They are leaving in packs and there’s nothing you can do about it because windstream doesn’t care about customer support and they don’t want you to either. It’s done, sorry

Without a doubt Something will definitely happen to the customers. Another carrier would have to take over the Ilec markets. Clec customers have the most to lose. Possibly move all accounts to call center rep.

Why would anyone want to restructure Windstream’s debt?

I was laid off like so many others and it ended up being the best thing for me.. I get paid half again what WIN was paying me. Don't get me wrong, WIN gave me added experience that was a benefit to my getting the next job. But those zero or one percent pay raises were a real kick in the midsection for all the hours I put in. I wish the best to whoever remains on the sinking ship and has no life vest.

What they do right now is in preparation for either bankruptcy or a split and fire sell. I think the only goal is to keep the doors open. No redemption is possible for this company. I think they are just waiting for the outcome of the default case which is in litigation right now.

Drastic times call for drastic measures... I think it would be all too little to late but;

  1. Restructure management. Reduce management by at least 40% at all levels. Fold in groups that perform similar jobs together.

  2. Hack and slash the redundancies in circuit costs in the CLEC networks. I don't give a $hit if thats "not my area or not my footprint" It's all your area now engineering deal with it... Or GTFO. Even incentive this work give them 10% of cost savings per quarter saved to speed up the work.

  3. Energize the sales force. Get them busy turning up any and all they can sale. We are a wh--e house.

  4. Automate for quality of life to help the workforce do more with less... Not trying to replace jobs and failing hard like the status quo is now.... You can't automate a $hit process - garbage in garage out.

  5. Stop all further M&A. This will piss of Wall Street but they are not likeing our sauce anyway worry about what's in your basket right now.

  6. STOP paying the lease to uniti. Worry about that either down the road or in bankruptcy court...

  7. Continue to kick the can on the outstanding bonds... Not a good thing but the only thing you can do right now.

It's too late. CenturyLink might have entertained a buy out in 2014/15 but Clink is gone it's Level3 now and they don't want your drivel TT.

This company has lost several experienced and dedicated employees ... some by being laid off and several who chos3 to leave due to the huge amount of stress along with lack of direction...poor management! At this point, I really believe it is much too lTe, so sad!

This site is not a joke. Listen to what people are saying because this is the true pulse of the company. The show's over for Windstream.

TLON tried to sell the company back in 2015 and was told by CenturyLink that the company had too many footprints and too many systems that were not integrated. Basically saying that Windstream bought all these companies and was pretending like it was functioning as a single company. They wanted it to truly function like a single company. That was the reason behind the big push for a single ticketing system, a single customer-facing phone number, and why win care even exist today. It's a sham. A single API that pulls in crap info from multiple databases and presents them in one pane of glass. But not really a single system. Hell the footprints have overlapping IP schemes so they will probably never function as one. Just got ask ERC what they have to do in order to log into an edge device or customer prem device.

I left making $65k base as an hourly employee and I now make $150k with great benefits, especially the insurance. I'm not sh1tting you at all. I've got no reason to lie. You should clean up your resume and go ahead and submit it to multiple job sites and head hunters.

Those of you who choose not to leave deserve whatever happens to you. Stay at WS if you are about to retire or if you are a convicted felon, and we all know who you are. Otherwise, listen to this site. The grass is definitely greener. It sure as h3ll can't be worse.
