Sales Leaders next to experience a round of downsizings

My sources tell me the Sales Leaders will be the next group that will be looked at for possible downsizing. Also, the trend for hiring new sales leaders is to bring in talent externally who have strong investment sales background. This is already happening out west. My observation is that the sales leaders overall are not getting the job done. Many are underqualified and in over their heads with very little respect from their agents. The company should've never scrapped the AFO system! Let's just say the baby was thrown out with the bath water!!!

Agency is clearly going to continue changing. But it has been changing forever, no matter what some people here like to think. Today’s agent contract is a massive cut from what agents had in 2000, and that was a huge cut from what they had in 1990. It’s comical to hear about the 1950’s model from folks who have no idea what agency is like.

It has been clear to agents for many years that we’ll need to somehow get really involved in financial services, or perish. But as SF detatches the customer from us more and more, they lose sight of the fact that those normal insurance conversations are where the financial services discussions begin.

Agents and their teams are the only people who are expected to miraculously work with every single department at State Farm, and to keep up with zero support or training. And these days, they’re the only people trying to assure the customer it will all be OK. It ain’t easy out here, and it’s not as lucrative as some of you think.

Most of the sales leaders I know in our area were failed or low performing agents. Those who can, do, those who can't, teach....

What does a sales leader do? They earn fat 6 figure salaries and provide very little to the bottom line. Ask any agent “what does a sales leader do for you” and they will tell you they do little to nothing. Agency is truly where the fat lies within this company and it’s about time it gets cut. We can not compete against Geico and Progessive with our 1950’s agency model. Nobody wants to pay for an agent when the provide very little customer service, especially with claims which they have been almost totally removed from. Leave agents to be more involved with complex products like life and commercial.
