Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

What happens if Windstream goes under (bankruptcy)

We can’t just shut it all down. So what happens when the walls come crumbling down? Does the government pick us up? Does a larger entity pick us up for pennies on the dollar? I’m just curious on what’s in store. We obviously can’t keep up a every 3 month layoff. But then again we keep buying other CLECS. Which totally confuses me because I thought we were trying to sell off CLEC assets.

If I recall, Toys R Us did a leveraged buyout. Essentially adding the money used to buy the comoany to their overall debt .. that sunk them.. in addition to competition from stores like walmart. Would make sense that Windstream has been purchasing companies like EarthLink in a similar manor. I don't know that for fact but where else would Windstream get the money to buy these companies.. bank loan and more debt. Watch the YouTube user 'company man'... he does many videos on the rise and fall of many companies.. and has one on Toys R Us as well that explains the Leveraged Buyout process.

There has been many CLECs go bankrupt... Heck just look at the corpses that make up the Paetec and EarthLink networks.... The most well known CLEC bankruptcy was MCI/WorldCom which also had an accounting scandal associated with it. There has been ILECs who have gone bankrupt as well; Otelco and Charter spring to mind. I figure the company is going to end up being ripped apart and we will take uniti along with us. Either way it's not going to be a pretty sight... it all depends on the credit default lawsuit, I think if that goes belly up. It will force WS into bankruptcy.

We can’t keep up the layoffs. Bankruptcy doesn’t mean the doors shut. However things will change at a faster pace.

Wow -@ Troll Monitor - the excessive use of ' shows your brilliance. What an a$$hat.

Like someone else said - you are pretty much screwed if they default. But - it takes a lot to default when your this big.

Toys R Us had this happen to them. But, look how long it took to get here. They suffered for a decade or more.

I work for another company a long time ago that went bankrupt and never received severance as the money were being use for payment to other creditor. I found some information that I pasted below:

When a company files a petition in Bankruptcy Court for protection from its creditors, anyone owed severance is considered just that: one of those creditors. As a general rule, if you are owed severance monies, and your employer files for bankruptcy protection, you will be treated just like any other “unsecured creditor.” This is the group of creditors who are last to be paid, if they are paid at all, in a bankruptcy. Employees owed severance will likely lose whatever severance monies have not been paid as of the date of the bankruptcy court filing, or close to all of that amount

if we were to file bankruptcy and close the doors, would severance packages still be paid out those who qualify for it? or will be simply thrown out in the snow to be fed to the wolves?
