I am in Phoenix and there is panic behind the ivory doors. Enrollment is plummeting and there isn't a clue on how to stem the tide. Faculty are being slashed- those who haven't taught in the last 6 months are done. There is no consideration for a quality. Too many faculty phone it in- have pre-written posts, never respond in a discussion and gloss over grading. I have heard this many times from students. Admin does not care about quality- they want tuition dollars and that's it. A UOPX degree is a sham- sad to say it is worthless. I don't really know how to turn things around but there needs to be a focus on the faculty- dump those who phone it in regardless of their credentials.

I am a reporter with the Daily Caller News Foundation, a news organization based in Washington, D.C. and I'm looking at UOP layoffs, as well as closure of classes and campuses.

$20 / hour seems rather high considering how much time faculty (should) spend in discussions,
commenting, guiding, grading and preparation. Any active faculty have a better estimate?
Sad but true. UOP used to be a fairly decent school for working professionals earning degrees to advance in their careers. Many students now select UOP because you can pass classes with a minimum effort. They're fooling themselves.
You're right that most students at UOP are perfunctory. They post a few plagiarized messages, search for solved assignments on the internet, and don't complete the weekly readings... all along hoping to earn passing grades, get a degree, and be promoted at work.
Can't say I approve of perfunctory schools either but the perfunctory low pay that perfunctory facillitators receive seems about right for their perfunctory participation in this perfunctory nothing for nothing scam called UoP.
Now you may know how the perfunctory students feel who unknowingly pay good money to endure your sorry ongoing tiresome relentless complaints.
Can't say I approve of perfunctory work but... when was the last time facilitators received a raise for their services? My understanding is the last raise took place in 2013. At the current rates, facilitators are providing their services for about $20/hour or less. With the new class sizes facilitators get $50 per extra student for 5 weeks work of grading their work, answering their questions and marking their participation. That comes to $10 per week per student. No wonder there are facilitators phoning it in.
