Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

IT Transformation

Curious to hear from those in Wave 1: Was your job offer to do something drastically different than what you’re doing now? Was anyone asked to relocate? Any insight for Wave 2 people?

I’d disagree with that view point. I know of a few product teams that are looking at zero continuity as far as people following the work unless they can move someone as part of Wave 2. Business continuity is supposedly a guiding principle and they’re dealing with a lot of Business Analysts so we’ll see how that pans out.

In my opinion, relocation for wave 2 is unlikely. There are too many of us. They don't need to pay to send us elsewhere.

Related question: Have any Business/professional (aka non-technical) people in IT been asked to relocate as part of the transformation? I’ll know my own fate in about two weeks but I would be nice to know if that’s a possibility for me.

@Tk3ERS3-1gub - can't answer the 1st question, but the answer to the 2nd is no, things will not get better. This is the new normal.

I think the underlying questions are, what’s next and will things get better?

I don't know anyone that got relocated against their will. Only about 140 people are being moved

Ditto ... alot of song and dance for same job (mainly), same location, landed in a new role/skill but still doing same thing as before.

I know couple people who are moving ... but they wanted to and interviewed for wave I positions in those locations.

Advice for business people ... start getting alot more flexible and think about working differently. The "today" system is going away, must do business differently. Get rid of today thinking and innovate.

Yes same. This is the single most demoralizing experience in my career and at the end of it, I got a vague assignment... I still am unsure what my role and responsibilities are supposed to be? I feel for wave 2 folks. This leadership is grossly incompetent.
