The poster below makes very good and incisive points. We really do need to improve and perhaps it’s time for a CEO from the outside who can help us improve our culture.

I say that as a long time SLB employee who recognizes the things we need to change as well as the good things

I found Schlumberger to have a “sick and dysfuncrional” management culture that is very self destructive hence the disastrous way they have handled the Smith integration destroying the company. It’s a horrible place to work where everybody is out to beat the next guy and politicing is more important than collaboration and serving the client. Corporate edicts sent out by email to the employees like a robotic machine are supposed to make changes - engage to excel, the blue print, the transformation, blah blah blah.....

It’s a horrible horrible sick place to work and no wonder the employees are not engaged and they screw up all the acquisitions. Cameron being the latest one to be destroyed now they ousted the Cameron leadership and replaced it with Schlumbertrons who don’t know anything about the business. History repeating itself for the umpteenth time. What was it Einstein said about doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results? Yes it’s a sign of insanity.

Peanuts? SMITH and MI pay structures were far more robust than SLB. And I stress “were”.

So true, SLB all about cheap labor which is why it's hard to understand why they moved the Ponca plant to Houston. Houston labor was paid 5 to 10 an hour more than Ponca. Higher wages, less productive, no H.T. , and not enough real estate. Doesn't make sense which is why so many people were upset.

A lot, defintely not all slb manager are here because of a-- licking, saying yes to all they are requested. Saying yes is part of occupational hazard when you don't know what you are doing.

Slb kind of knows that with these a-- licking and incompetent management they might not be able to always produce sth new/ do anything productive ergo all thes m&as..

Slb have totally screwed up miswaco and lost loads of market share. A total screw up of an acquisition made worse by themselves by laying off all the highly experienced miswaco managers because they earned more than slb people. Slb thought they could replace them with the average Schlumberger manager but of course they don’t have clue about the mud business but very good at playing politics and making it look like they do. They already screwed up a mud company in the past and it is sheer incompetence to be doing it again.

So what? Smith couldn't survive on its own and it's Smith management who sold the company to SLB. That's all about Smith.

True, slb is a hands off company.

With all harcs/ sq rirs everyone is more concerned about not doing something wrong. And just like that John smith commemorated career ended with 1000s of rir/ sq and absolutely nada real stuff

"Smit(sic) Bits is the second bit company to fail under SLB management". That sums it up pretty well. SLB is a two bit company.

Both companies should have remained separate and stuck to what they knew best. Smit Bits is the second bit company to fail under SLB management. SLB should have let them sink or swim on their own.

SLB does not understand manufacturing. You can’t sell a tool and promise a delivery date that falls before procurement can get the raw materials to even make a part. SLB is a hands off company. Stand back, write a HARC, maybe do a RIR if someone actually tries to work. Run project costs through the roof with HSE and all the requirements that can be dreamed up. SLB merged with SMITH, so all this BS about so it our way is just that, BS. Both companies were successful before the merger, so what has changed?

Not sure why there is so much Smith religion is going on, bottom line is we all are working employees for a while in a public company. We do not own this Smith or slb. They just pay us and make profit from our existence.

Of course unless you are a big guy who own a big peace of a pie. Just saying

Must have been the guy who put SLB in bed with the synthetic diamond manufacturer that had the Smith idea. Automation and outsourcing may replace what is left of Smith. If it is worth having.

we picked them up from the gutter, a bunch of bankrupting rednecks coming from the a-- end of US, with enough education to machine a piece of metal and egos large enough to fit Texas. No use to anyone but themselves, impossible to manage, as technology-savvy as your average golden retriever. Had them on 2 projects in a row, all PLs doing good, Smith kicked out both times by Weatherford!

Integrating a different company is always a challenge, but with Smith it was a no-starter. How do you integrate someone who thinks that "Ponca" (wtf is Ponca.. a soft drink?) is the center of universe into a company like Slb?

May sound like I am bashing them employees... I don't. They are what they are, could not be any different if they tried 100 yrs. I am blaming who bought what was a massive pa&ma org and tossed it into the global field.
