Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

What if the NXP deal falls through?

Everybody seems so excited about the forward movement in the NXP deal, even the projections of Qualcomm stock rise have gone significantly up, but what happens if in the end the deal really ends up falling through?

How bad will it be for Qualcomm with so much hinging on it?

And more importantly how bad will it be for us as employees?

Selling depreciated fabs then paying more for the wafers for the next ten years is not a good strategy (re: fabless). There is a big difference between cutting edge fabs (which Q needs for their consumer business) and legacy process fabs for industrial and auto customers. One is too expensive for a single company to keep up with, the other prints money.

N does have fabs because of takeover FSL in 2015.

As @ysi stated N has more expensive workers due to the revenue/#employees.

In Europe jobs can't be safe. In the past a lot of semi companies closed sites.

Whether QN marriage happens or not but firms will axe employees.

Only 2 months left. It's the final countdown!!!

NXP is 31K+ employees and $10B revenue.

Q is 30K employees and $ 20B+ revenue.

The NXP deal has only two possible outcomes for Qualcomm employees - bad, and a whole lot worse.

1) Bad - the deal falls through and Qualcomm pays out a $2 BILLION fee for the break-up.

2) Whole lot worse - the deal goes through, and a LOT of Qualcomm employees get the ax over time to compensate for the fact that getting rid of employees in Europe is very hard indeed.
