Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

M-Gone left Ynot a solid playbook!

Hey, M-Gone may have flown the coop with a golden parachute, but her turnaround plan made a lot of sense. I particularly liked her ideas about beefing up Mattel's scripted content offerings and presence in digital gaming, a potentially profitable category. Cost cutting the Mattel behemoth is needed, but in a smart way. You can’t cost cut headcount as a way to profitability.

Ynot and the Board plan to stick with M-Gone’s transformation plan. Just hope they have the right team in place to make it happen.

If M-Go believed in her plan, she would've stayed. The fact is, it's the same playbook that CS, BS and the rest having been spouting for years. They just never DO it. Why? Because when you're #1 profit driver continues to sink like a stone, no matter how much money you throw at it, and how many of your own brands to sacrifice in the never of the Holy Blonde, you don't have the cash to do much.

Cost cutting IS HEADCOUNT and product. There isn't a lot more than that to cut unless you want a mutiny because the folks in El Segundo don't get their work from home day (stupid) or free coffee, or the latest "Coloring Book" event from HR posted on Linked IN (insulting).

M-Go chose to go on her own. Why? Because she faced the fact that she can't pull off her plan - that the deck and imbalance within the company's brand portfolios is unrecoverable. She came to save Mattel, but when she couldn't, she did what ever great leader does - quits while their ahead and leave the mess to someone else. She's a special person.

Of course she was given time to look for something else. Once it was clear she couldn't do the job the Board had to find someone else to run the show. So she kept getting those paychecks while they decided what to do. She was probably informed before Toy Fair that she would be leaving.

Anyone who thinks she quit, depriving her of the parachute that she got when she was ousted, is a fool.

Why would she quit the huge paycheck she was getting at Mattel to take a much smaller paycheck at Ancestry?

IF she was ousted, they very likely would have given her time to make a transition somewhere else. There's no doubt she had Ancestry.com lined up well before her announcement to leave. It was already in the news that she was going to Ancestry on the day of her announcement.

She probably quit- in corporate-speak, ousted would be "left for personal reasons".

The best cost-cutting would be to fire the entire Board. A new board and a CEO With actual industry experience could turn the ship around, but CS and his band of losers are just milking the company dry.

Who says she was ousted? Ancestry announced her new role almost immediately after the news of her departure. That doesn't happen by accident. If she were truly blindsided, she would've been discharged with no gig lined up. She probably saw the writing on the wall and got the hell out as quickly as possible.

If her plan was so good why was she ousted? The truth is she had no clue, and if the Board (you seem to be one of them) thinks following her losing game plan is the right thing to do then you should not be on the Board (or CEO).
