Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Is Raleigh Datacenter heading to the guillotine?

So far I only heard that RTP datacenter is ripe to be sold. Does anybody from there or otherwise know if that is indeed happening. I have a choice to move to datacenter but there is so much uncertainty now that it may be a bad decision? Thx

Apple MAY set up a campus in RTP. Even if they did it would be after any sale of QDT, after folks have moved on or after they have been laid off. Expected announcement is early June (WWDC maybe?). Rumor is that Google will also be in RTP to recruit. So far only one company that has recruited has a local presence in HW. They probably won't double their site but they did say they were in the process of expanding and may increase the amount of expansion. Everyone else is recruiting for jobs in other cities.

There will be a presence in Raleigh for QCT. But it will be relatively small by comparison.

I can't imagine what will become of QC if Samsung competes on the premium tier, they lose the lawsuit with Apple AND the FTC, and the NXPI deal falls through. What's more likely: All those things going for or against QC? They have completely painted themselves into a corner in mobile custom cores. Bravo SM,. You have done a bang up job. Wondering how long before the rip cord on his golden parachute gets pulled.

*1pid, yes there are some reqs open to support the China cpu team. That model could extend for a while but it is possible the reqs were tailor made to s--- in some preferred candidates.

Every day that ticks by QC won't have a team to sell. Or it will be so depleted they won't be able to make a product.

SM and AC said that they would no longer fund the project. AC left the company either on his own or was asked to go. They would obviously prefer to find a buyer for the team than have to pay severance for ~700 people. Don't know what the timeframe is on how soon they need to find a buyer. Big companies have had local job fairs the last 2 days to recruit people from the server team.

Not headed to the guillotine; but headed to the auction block. There some value there and Q needs to extract it.

Yeah probably not a wise move at the moment. Unless of course you see it as an opportunity to leave Qualcomm for a (potentially) new employer
