Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

We will get through this together

The reason I think most have lost the positive vibe is the lack of morale that no longer exists within this company. Look beyond the layoffs. There is such extreme nepotism and favoritism that you could lose count when trying to lay out how some people have been passed over for such opportunities.

People I know, myself included, have applied for multiple positions within this company. My friends and I have applied for so many positions. We are all qualified to work these positions. I have been with this company for many years, and when I ask why I did not get an interview, or the position in general, I get this stupid excuse that states that I had not been with the company long enough.

The people who do get hired are the friends of the directors and the supervisors. People get passed over, and the ones who get picked are basically promised positions. How is a person who has worked for the company multiple years, has gotten great evaluations, and has helped with multiple projects to compete with the person who was friends with the boss, or on the boss’ old team? You could easily state that maybe if you work harder then you could make it happen, but how hard must you work to make that happen.

I love what I do with Windstream. My team is like my second family, and my supervisor is amazing, but every time I see a position that I fancy and apply for I know it is a loss cause because I know that I will not get an interview, or get the job. I am stuck where I am at, and I do get angry. I know I may be too good for what I do, but I love what I do.

Just don’t get on there and state that people need to be optimistic because people have lost their faith. I am not saying that these people are demanding their dues, but these people deserve to be given opportunities for interviews and promotions. These people are hard workers and know this company back and forth, but they get a thanks for all you do, and that is about it. You have to understand that people who witness that firsthand can lose faith in their workplace and want it to fail. I think some people on this site are disgruntled because no matter what they do they can never catch a break with this company. The same people get promoted and recognized, and other more qualified people get left in the tracks.

Sorry for the rant, but I felt that I wanted to get it off my chest. I have never posted on this site before. Thanks for reading, and thanks for listening. We will get through this together.

It is true in many departments that the management got there by who they know. I’m sick of the pups coming in out if college and being fast-tracked up the ladder without any skills or knowledge. Many are put into leadership roles when they have NO soft skills whatsoever. They don’t know how to MANAGE people. I was in one dept where all directors were in their 20’s. It was a joke. They were trying to tell how to do our jobs, when we had beed doing them longer than our directors had been alive. They couldnt relate to their people at all. I couldn’t wait to get out.

This has not been what I have seen. Most of the Managers and Supervisors have worked their way up through the ranks. Is it possible that some of you over value yourselves ? Possible that your work ethic does not match your education? EarthLink was one of the few companies where you could be promoted based off of work ethic, drive, and ambition. Maybe you do not know what these "undeserving" people do on a daily basis. Spend some time worrying about your job and what you do instead of watching what you think others don't. That will get you more of the attention you obviously crave and feel that you deserve already.

What you have to realize is the amount of managers who actually deserved the promotions. My manager is one out of several I have seen who actually deserved her promotion. She was with the company for years before she was even promoted to team lead until she was given supervisor of our department. She is one who actually spends time with us, and knows what she is doing. Our department is offline, and we handle a vast array of things so she has had to train on so many functions, and she knows everything.

Some supervisors have been promoted after months, or one year just because they have been friends with upper management. People have seen this regardless of the department.

These surveys are just a bunch of crap...no managers take this seriously....no managers, directors or VPs take this seriously...the company only wants to hear the positive...when you try to point out issues and even suggest improvements, the company frowns on this.... these surveys are a waste of time and money!

While it may not be true about riases, it used to be very important that every direct manager has a high completion rate for surveys. This reflected on their performance up to the director. Who more then likely they aiming to impress... While they may not have been monetary gain from pushing the survey, their was pressure.

Further more the survey has two parts. 1. The macro company: would you recommend blah blah and 2. The micro; my direct manager blah blah... These surveys did reflect up to the VP level to down their vertical... Thus the pressure

Not taking the survey is not a good idea. It is better to just rip them a new one. TT doesn't give a rats behind, but that half a ret@rd you have for a director, Sr director they care a great deal because this shows their performance to the higher ups.

At this point the company is so screwed you might as well completely rip them a new one.what are they going to do? Lay you off.... That's going to happen eventually anyway.... Get your resumes together.

@TXkMMzb-2hec

They hound us about taking surveys but they do not use them to make any changes.

I am done with surveys. No response is a better message than replying, nothing is done anyway, just more smoke and mirrors from the Koolaid drinkers.

@HateFavortism,

You are correct in so many ways about how the new sup will be "picked" NOTHING where we work is about how much education, knowledge, or experience you have. It is about who kisses the most A$$ but is also about who you are related to or with whom you are willing to sleep with. Folks if you don't like any of the above 3 alternatives to promotion then ws ain't the place for you! More people get promoted by who they know then who actually has the qualifications for the position. like @TXkMMzb post above most of has applied for jobs we were more than qualified for only to get the email telling you "after careful consideration" LMAO really??? how careful was it if you don't even get an interview? Only to learn that someone that is dumb as a box of rocks but is willing to screw their way up or kiss the right a-- or even be related to the right person has gotten the job. what a dam joke. Hang on because if the rumored person gets the job we are in for a VERY bumpy ride and not the good kind like at the amusement park!! Does anyone in management 1st, care? and 2nd? realize why morale in your company is so low? Most don't take the survey because it doesn't really make a difference and nothing will change. I really could go on and on sorry this sounds like another rant

Rest assured, our Dept has a vacant supervisor position open and the newcomer will not be someone who will come in with a backbone and straighten this place up but yet it will be another one of the directors favorites. I’m sure he’s already made a few phone calls and already knows who is going to take our sups place. It will be one of his favorites, best friends. Yeah, mark my word. We already know how this is going to go down. So no need to apply little peons. If he doesn’t like you, you stand no chance. Sit back and watch! It’s like a 3 ring circus.
