I heard that the Department Managers jobs are going away? I am new to Walmart and my position.

Thanks for the update. In my store shoes and jewelry dept are combined.
@3tkd in my store they have combined infants, girls, and boys with 1 DM. Womens, accessories & lingerie are under 1 DM. Mens is still 1 DM. Not sure if that will be changed. Our Jewlery and shoes were combined a while ago with 1 DM. We lost 2 DM positions in softlines this year. The pet dpt and chemicals have already been combined in my store but other stores in my area have not done that yet. I've also heard about 46 and 2 combining soon. Also fabrics, celebration, and stationary combined last year in my store. In all we have lost 5 DM positions in the last 6-8 months with more coming. This is just my store. Not all stores will follow exact thing. Depends on the volume and sales of each dpt.
What about the softlines , clothing departments. I am a DM for Dept 27-31. I am also new to Walmart. What department will I work in. Thanks
I'm at a div 1 store in central cali. Our DMs have been told there are changes coming. Depts are being combined. Dpt 2 and 46 will combine and have 1 DM instead of 2. All domestics and furniture will combine and have 1 DM instead of 2. Pets and chemicals/paper goods will combine and go back to 1 DM. It was that way several years ago. We are getting a remodel in August and getting the new robots. The changes will start after that is complete. They have already started downsizing overnight stockers. When someone leaves they are not replacing them. Cap 1 and 2 will do picks and work freight. Only floor cleaning crew will be overnights. If you see the new robots in your store, change is coming soon. Also Pickup DM is being eliminated in the near future. Not all stores are doing same thing, but changes are coming to all stores.
It’s true. The fresh changes are just the beginning. That program will go store wide eliminating most of the dept mgr roles in the stores as well as removing overnights by the end of summer
Deli and Bakery combine, Produce and Meat each have a DM. There's also a production supervisor for Deli and Bakery combined. There will be a Cap 1 and Cap 2 Fresh Supervisor. This was announced two weeks ago and schedules were generated this last week. Everyone should have been talked to by now. We're a 65 million dollar store may vary if lower then that.
A good friend of mine is a deli dept. mgr. Last week he told me his job will very likely soon be combined with bakery and maybe even produce. ... Needless to say, he is very tense and tormented over this.
So yes: big changes are definitely coming, but exactly what form and whom they impact will probably vary by market and division.
