Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

GE screwd up years ago when they started requiring a college degree to be a boss.

Years ago they would offer people off the floor jobs as bosses and these bosses off the floor new the product because they actually worked on the floor. Now they hire College students with know shop smarts and know people skills. You can't hire a guy that managed a chuck E Cheese store to run a locomotive shop.

Wow you nailed it, I worked for Intel Corp for 28 years and the beginning of the down fall was requiring BS for Operators of tooling Engineers frowned on for a Masters, primary hired India -PHD's HB 1 Visas.

As the cut 12,000 jobs of mostly folks over age 49, forced retirement-either take it or get no $ package. White males - degree- with years of experience self included. As we were preparing our exit day, eating lunch in the cafe' 3 or four groups of 30-40 folks, India, Chinese, Malay, kids about twenty where there for NHO (New Hire Orientation) That was just what we observed in on sitting. Appears they could not get us out fast enough. That's my story,------ However my Dad - worked 35 years @ GE in Lynn aviation and is probably turning over in his grave to see sure a mess that GE has become!

Whether driving a fork truck is difficult or not, the OP was talking about being a boss. Which is about putting people where they are most effective, and getting them to work efficiently, using the tools you have. In positions where butter bars are the only tools needed, that is an easy job. In the real world, the job is more difficult.

I agree that it’s not that hard to learn a lot of the jobs down there. Which makes it even more sad that most of the bosses down there really don’t know them.

Yes definitely that college degree did nothing .... the same one that I needed to be a military officer and all of the training I then got because I became a military officer definitely did not help me when I started in the Schenectady plan. Every guy that I worked with i knew their job in about a month tops it's not that hard unless you're a very very skilled machinist or welder it's not that hard to learn what a fork truck driver does

Not on your EMS. You needed every character you could get because the character limits were so small, because management and HR was too busy and important to read anything substantial.

Despite this and a few other grammatical errors, the OP's point makes more sense than your condescending reply.
