Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Go to college then work for the Farm

I was hired 19 years ago into auto claims and into fire then NatCat handling both at the MA (then RB and now RA) and MG levels.

We saw the future of "specialization" coming when ACC and FCC started then CCS-J and CCS-D. It has been horrible for the customers when claims evolved into the current model. Even more horrible for employees.

I used to tell my kids, without hesitation, to go to college then work for the Farm. Not anymore. This is the last place I would want my kids to work. Even with a field proximity job. I am not so certain State Farm will be around in 10-15 years. Blockbuster, Sears, Montgomery Ward, Theranos...

That’s how I got s---ed in 11 years ago. It was great when I started actually looked forward to coming to work and co workers felt like family. Now you don’t even have an opportunity to get to know the people across the room, only those right around. I would have never dreamed I’d be looking elsewhere, it’s scary, but in the end money isn’t everything. No reason to have tenure anymore either. Loyalty to the company doesn’t get you anywhere. People who come up the fast track of ILR/Express where 3/3’s are given like candy to keep them happy are now in complex roles and make more and get the better shifts because of the higher ratings. It’s changed so much, now your just a number on a huddle board.

I totally agree. Started telling my kids FIVE years ago to avoid SF as a place to work. This company used to be a top employer and took care of it's people. Now, you are just a metric.

Just trying to make a few more years and retire.
