Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

This is not good for us

How many people stand to lose their jobs once this is implemented?

Microsoft is now working on tech that would allow retailers to build checkout-free stores. However, instead of installing that tech in the smattering of Microsoft stores across the country, sources told Reuters that Microsoft has had talks with Walmart about a potential joint effort that could give Amazon some competition.

What people don't realize is that WM has been training us to use the self-checkouts without us realizing it. They purposely under-staff cashiers at the POS so we get frustrated enough to use the self-checkouts. They continually do this until we habitually got to the self-checkouts without thinking twice. Then they use those stats to say more people 'use'........ and cut more cashiers. It's a vicious circle.

The automated check-outs are more are more friendly than some of the cashiers.

If you haven't noticed those jobs are already being eliminated with self checkouts. Hell Sam's has added more self checkouts and Scan and Go. Dream come true of thieves.

Automation, the hackers and thieves dream come true. Walmart will now have to hire, higher paid security personnel to combat all the stealing that will take place.

Automation creates it's own set of problems. WM, who typically has 250-350 associates per store, becomes automated and let's say, only needs 20 people now. You have all those people without jobs. Who is now going to buy their products? People w/o jobs can't afford anything.

Most of my grocery money is spent at Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Kroger and a newer store called Fresh Thyme. If they don't have what I want, I will go to WM. Once WM becomes automated, I will cease shopping there altogether.

Those that can be replaced (everyone), start looking at possibly going back to school for a tech job or one that automation can't easily replace.
