Thread regarding Sears layoffs

With all the store closings, what happens to the sncs printers and batteries and chargers?

You would think the equipment would be tested to make sure it works then recycled back into the stores that despartly need these items!

Anyone know what happens to this stuff?

Did any of the closing stores have the i-pods and I-pads? Do they go back to Apple?

Just curious

Just use a BLACK marker, after all, Kmarts and Sears already look worse the Good Will. Even The Home Depot hand writes giant signs with markers.

Tried ordering batteries. Waited and waited for them to come in. Finally called and was told that the DM canceled the order three weeks ago because the money was not in the budget. You can order all you want but keep up with the order to see when it gets canceled.

The printer batteries are still available through zebra technologies and the quad chargers as well

Batteries are $42.00 each

The Quad charger is listed on eBay for $79.00

We can’t afford two new batteries but we can afford to hire another s softline coordinator.. makes NO sense at all

We have old printers on the shelf for sale but the Mgr doesnt want to have to buy the ink to when it runs out. We print over 500-600 pages a day of reports and online order paperwork the ink would last about 2 days at that rate.

They stopped giving maintenance to the office copy machine over two years ago and we were told that when it died, which it did, we would get no other copier. The office printer has been fixed at least twenty times in the last few years and now doesnt work and they dont make parts for it anymore.

@1dlx - your store manager won't "splurge" on a cheap laser printer from Office Depot? They're like $50. They would spend more than that by continuing to use the copy and print services.

I don't know how much sadder this company can get...

They are no longer available. They are so outdated that no one manufactures them any longer....

If you guys have a model # for the printer or batteries, I could probably tell you if they're actually NLA or not.

we havent had a printer or copy machine for over a year. We go across the street to Office depot to copy or print anything. Our Sncs are on their last legs. We have around 20, but only three batteries that work and we cannot order more because of budget cuts. Our computers are so old that the tech person told us that the updates for security and other essential processes will not work.

We got some equiptment from a closing store but it was just junk they couldnt sell and did not want to pay for desposal.

we are told the printer batteries are avaliable but we cannot order because of budget cuts

I've been told that the printer batteries are no longer available. I don't know if that's actually true or just a cop-out to avoid having to buy new batteries. It is possible that the batteries are NLA since those printers are over 15 years old, easily.

I would think that surplus printers and batteries are warehoused somewhere, at least the ones that are still functional, because all IT equipment from a closing store must be shipped to the SHC IT dispostion center and none of it gets liquidated or thrown away. I know that registers are collected and put in storage so that if a store needs to replace an existing system that cannot be repaired by NCR, they ship out a replacement register.

I've heard that corporate IT actually charges the store for sending extra or replacement equipment (our CEO has been known to pit different parts of the company against each other, so it's plausible), so store managers are going to be reluctant to add to their expenses unless they really have to, since they are told to cut back and spend nothing.

Im a closing store and everyday is a struggle to find a printer, a printer battery and a snick with a connected scanner. Its ridiculous that we are not given the tools we need to perform our job correctly. We have to share printers and snicks. Stuff is garbage you wouldnt want it! So glad this is over!

You don't want them anyway. I guarantee you that they're models my employer (logistics industry) chucked out four years ago. Batteries are probably all shot to hell. I saw people saying they couldn't get printer batteries anymore. My guess is that the printers are so old that the manufacturer no longer makes batteries for them anymore.

This stuff is really meant to be replaced every 3 years at the LATEST, and I seriously doubt Sears gets that memo. We just refreshed every single scanner+iPhone combo at my employer last year. Oldest ones were 3 years old. I doubt Sears is that good. I pity you guys, seriously.

They don't work now! Why would they test them if they were shipped to another store?
