I am starting to get some closure now. My usually-nice and complimentary managers seemed suddenly mean in the layoff meeting. No "you did a good job, sorry about this" or anything. Maybe HR gave them a script and told them to act harsh? If you got laid off, what was your layoff meeting like?

Is it possible your managers felt so uncomfortable about this that they "shut down" at a time when stepping up the support would have meant so much to you? At any rate, I'm sorry you were treated so poorly. It's like adding insult to injury.
I was told via a one way video from the big three in ET. No interaction, no questions, just bye-bye and an e-mail from HR to a SharePoint site. My manager found out the same time I did - or so they said.
By telling employees “we don’t want you anymore”, what message does that send to those employees who are also customers? People understand business conditions change. It’s all in the delivery in the message and how you treat people.
