Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Stop complaining about being laid off!

I see a lot people complaining about being laid off. Most blame the people deal and b--ch that Cisco doesn't care about it's employees. No sh--. It's not their job to make employees the top priority. That is and will always be to make money. After all that's the mission of a company. A company that treats employees nice is always a good thing but remember everyone is expendable.

Glad I’m gone. Can’t imagine dealing with constant IMs, emails, WebEx meetings and the latest collaboration application that is going to save the day and increase productivity exponentially. Oh and death by PPT

One day when you leave you will understand there’s so much more to life.

#GiG glad I’m gone

Cisco does have some awesome perks, take advantage of them. Bumped salary 20% after LR, but perks/bonus different; so it's a wash. Just save as much as you can and keep working. Avoid frivolous purchases. You can easily have a great retirement nest egg after ten years at Cisco if you develop a retirement and investment plan.

To a person everyone I've later met who quit or got laid off from Cisco has found a better position and is happier. To be fair, Cisco in the 90's was extremely generous with options and promotions. But management didn't know how to run the company after the 2000 crash. Then there was the growth by acquisition strategy; the folks who really made these companies so successful would leave so over time Cisco naturally built up a vast pool of mediocre employees.

I honestly have to side with the OP on this one. Although I don't agree with their wording I do agree making money is the goal of any company as it keeps the company from folding. As for the poster who asked does anyone want to work for a company who doesn't give a sh-- about its employees? Of course, not. However, they definitely will as long as their are mouths to feed and bills to pay. Several folks at Cisco seem to meet this mold.

Does anyone want to work for companies that “just don't give a $h*t” about there employees?

"bad" companies get "bad" employees. A vicious circle.

Companies exist to make money for their shareholders. Being nice to your workers and not treating them as a fungible commodity sometimes makes money. But other times they just don't give a $h*t.

Corporate social responsibility is about Cisco supporting the well-being of the communities and societies in which it operates and on which it depends. It is not about treating employees as an expendable commodity. Profit is not the only objective as you assert.
