Just keep in the basement and hope they don't find out you are still on the books. And let the stapler GO. Or Burn down the building.

I have seen 3 layoffs in my 25+ years career.
1st: whole dept was vaporized but me. My manager that time told me that I was on the list as well, but they wanted to keep know how. The rest was newcomers.
2nd: dept was closed. Even though there were better ones they kept me because I could stay until end unemotionally (rest work had to be accomplished)
3rd: multi site group fired several people in one location. The fired ones were not worse than others. Political decision.
Summary: it is know how, hard work and not getting emotional to survive. Sometimes you hate what you do but you should think it's your only chance. The one who stays cool until the end wins.
