I ran into this article recently, and while it's about IBM, it could just as much be about PepsiCo. Same methods are being used to phase out older and most experienced employees who make more. It's a good read to help realize that what's happening here is happening all across the board.

Dear @Sz3pj9r-9rml you should be next. PepsiCo could not function without contractors. You must be 1 of those 'Directors' who carries around a Mac, Iphone and Ipad all day. Worries about a title and does crap. I know I deal with your type all day long. From New York to Plano. Talk about worthless and clueless. I'll publish some names...
If you are a contractor, I suppose your job status depends on the company you work for. It's not PepsiCo's problem or concern....hence the reason you're a contractor, not an employee.
Announced a couple of weeks ago.. Major IT re-organization at Pepsico. ALL contracting agencies will be gone. All consolidated to 1. This will have a MAJOR effect on ALL contracting employees. There is also talk of re-badging employees. If you were an IT employee, you may be re-badged to a contractor. Worse, if you are a contractor you may loose your job.
