Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Is it true? No more Sundays off?

I have a church function to go to and was recently told that Lowe's only has to guarantee one weekend off a month that you do not automatically get an extra Sunday off of month and that if you don't like it you can find a new job.

The company is required by law to allow you attend church service on Sundays as it is your 'sincerely held religious belief' that you must.

The quoted text is what the law requires employers to accommodate.

If your sincerely held belief requires just enough time off to attend morning service and then work in the afternoon, then that's your belief.

If your faith requires that you be off all day Saturday or Sunday, then so be it.

You determine what your beliefs are and the company had to accommodate them unless it causes an undue burden on their business. Letting one employee off on Sunday is not likely to cause undue burden to the company.

However, they may fire you and claim that it does cause a burden or that you knew weekends were mandatory when hired.

This is wrong, but it puts you in the position of fighting for your job back. They know that most employee don't have the deep pockets to fight legally.

In this case your best option is file a compliant with state equal employment opportunity commission.

They will also likely deny any unemployment claiming good cause for your firing. You'll have to fight there too if they fire you.

We have a ministers wife who works in Walls and Windows, she doesn't work Sundays due to playing the organ at church nor Wednesday night due to religious education needs. She is full-time.

“This is retail so get with the program, be glad you have a job or find something else. God certainly isn't going to give you a paycheck no matter how much you pray and give your hard earned money to his supposed messenger just so they can build a bigger home or fancier car on your dime.”

  • what a stupid and cruel post. I’m not a church goer. But trying to bully someone over their beliefs, wow, you must be Lowe’s management material.

I will say this, one day at wits end with Lowe’s, I said hey God if your up there, can you help me get out of this place. First thing I saw at break was a link to a job search site. I saw something I liked, did research on resume’s, wrote a resume and cover letter. Called the company and went in.

Now I’m making over $30 an hour, M-F for a boss who cares. He’s a bit religious for me but that was a sign that good people are out there.

Hopefully your bitterness and mean spirit aren’t permanent.

Lowe's is about as warm as a 3 day old dead person. They could care less about what you do with your life. You sign up for full time you are now their b--ch. Accept or leave. I am choosing to leave for a family run business. That believes in weekends off. Much better then this POS place.

God does pay your check. He gives you everything, maybe you should believe in him!

Actually, depending on your classification, you aren't really guaranteed any thing, rotation or not. Corporate rations are actually just a suggestion and the stores don't really have to follow them. They can't cut your two days but they can schedule you anywhere they need when ever they need to. The suggested rotational schedule isn't the law of the land.

So maybe you should just get a job with a church or other religious organization that will understand your way of thinking. This is retail so get with the program, be glad you have a job or find something else. God certainly isn't going to give you a paycheck no matter how much you pray and give your hard earned money to his supposed messenger just so they can build a bigger home or fancier car on your dime.

Yes it's true. CHURCH, FRIENDS OR FAMILY OBLIGATIONS. Don't matter. Part timers will have the prime schedule. Full Time employees will work around the prime shifts. Remember employees are none important entities that put a drain on the stock price.

Sounds reasonable to me. Maybe you should ask your god to pay you a check. What a blessing that will be lol.
