Biggest problem with Q is lack of young talent

I worked at Q in Santa Clara myself after graduating from a top school, but left after 11 months to work at Airbnb. Many of the new grads who came to Q around the same time as I did either have left already or are doing coding interview preps everyday.

Reason? The pay.

My pay at Airbnb is like 400% of what I got at Q, if you count the bonus and RSUs. Even the base salary is 2X. Same is true for Google, Facebook, etc, or any other leading software company. I came to Q because I didn't know about what the salaries are like in other companies, but once I knew, I left within 2 months. I suggest all of you who can code to leave for software companies immediately, even if you don't get laid off this time. You'll get at least 2.5X better pay, free food, great perks,etc.

I got L5 at lyft with 4 years experience.

Your L4 offer sounds strong compared to the L5 I received then: 180k base/$500k stock over 4 years/40k signing. 20k shares now is pretty high for L5 these days as it would be about $800k in stocks.

I can chime in,not my board but saw the thread... I am Level 63 at Microsoft with about four years of experience. Got an offer from Airbn but declined... I Got offered L4 with slightly lower salary than my current salary+yearly cash bonus, and ~$300k sign-on RSU. I declined since this would be a downgrade in both level and cash income, but they say they rarely give L5 offers unless you have 10+ years of experience.

AirBNB RSUs are unicorn funny money, if things play out right, may turn out to be good, but I have some serious doubts about this...

Also, I kind of have a feeling that 200K here in Seattle is just about 300K in the Bay Area - so, go figure.

OP is full of it. The numbers totally do not add up.

Also, "I did not know" makes no sense, I graduated five years ago and we all knew how much each company pays. There is a ton of resurces you can leverage to get this info, from glassdoor, to indeed, to reddit groups, and several other closed groups. if you just google it you'll get a ton of info. finally, why would you even apply somewhere if you do not know what the comp structure is.

finally, our hiring mix is different if compared to ubers of the world.

i just think that this person never worked at QC (or a FANG for that matter) but it's ok

New hires have to pay 20K bonus if they leave before completing a year. Any way to get around this issue?

True...my friend jumped off the ship back in early 2016 after the big layoff to Uber. He was like 2 years outta master's and got ~600k total package...admittedly ~350k was in stocks but his base pay was still ~180k over Q's 105

Let say qcom give you annual 120k package, will airbnb give you 480k per year as a nearly fresh graduate? I do not believe that BS

OP I get 190 K- 210 K TC with benefits and liquid cash doing 1-2 hours work and living on the beach jumping in joy surfing every day. Do remember this is at a time where my stocks are not valued at all for past 3-4 years and I expect next 5 years to be way better.

Why move unnecessarily to Airbnb and become just a herd of engineers with illiquid cash ? I love Q and will stay till layoff if it happens haha :-)
