Apple @ thelayoff.com

THE latest post for Apple was made THREE months ago while you guys are whining and concerning ten times a day. That is where you are. Can you really believe it?

Look at Microsoft. They have cornered a market and they've been riding the wave for about 40 years now. No layoffs (aside from small and targeted groups).

Apple is in the same boat... They have cornered a market, I do not see them having major issues for decades.

Our play was licensing, that never lasts long...

I still believe we can crank out some value, we need to change in a major way though.

Why would they lay off? They make a lot of money and the shareholders are happy.

@xmo - true. Yet, the fact is they do not lay off at the moment too. We just went thru a major trauma too

The atmosphere at the Fruit Company is not one that supports the employee freely expressing their thoughts and opinions. From what I understand it is more like a “need-to-know” atmosphere where collaboration between employees is discouraged with threat of termination. Much like the Cold War Government Contractor companies. So I don’t think you can really compare the two companies, as there is a more healthy openness of expression at Qualcomm in my opinion. Fruit company employees are more prone to keep their opinions to themselves and are even scared to talk about what they do at work.
