No more sick day alottment

You gotta hand it to the Farm. Getting rid of the employee sick day alottment was a crafty, crafty move!

We did not get paid for the unused sick days we had built up. But the abusers of it got paid for using it. I think there should be a class action suit for that. I think we should have bee compensated for our unused built up sick days

Strategic and crafty - targets the ill and weak first so they can get too many points or run out of PTO and be terminated ASAP. Cold and unethical.

This company is going to hell in a hand basket. They could care less about their employees. Tulsa literally had an employee with cancer who had to come back to work because he ran out of PTO and short term disability, then caught the flu by coming back to work and died. Do you think State Farm cared? Nope.

Classic case of a few bad apples... The old system was abused. Lots of stories/rumors of new hires taking their sick and vacation days before even showing up to work, then quitting or taking them to do job interviews. Also funny how people 'got sick' in April/May right before the new PV allotments. How is that fair to those that play by the rules?

Of course, the fact that they gave everyone a better 'rate' on earning time off to the tune of 2 weeks a year, is left out They even accounted for longer term sick time with short term disability where you don't burn more PTO after 5 days

This is the only policy change in the last 10 years that's actually benefitted me. I don't know of anyone that thought this change was bad.

Yes, this is standard operating procedure in the rest of the corporate world. However, there is no doubt that the timing of this decision was motivate by the fact that State Farm was about to give hundreds (or thousands) or people a really good excuse to abuse the hell out of the sick day policy.

If a person is laid off and given six months notice, it's unlikely he's going to drain vacation days that he would otherwise get paid for after his QTD, when those sick days are sitting there just waiting to be taken advantage of.

Hell, in the area where I work, people aren't even logging their time off anymore. And no one really cares. The whole area is demotivated as hell. Everyone is sick like every other day and has been for months.

As a long-term employee, I would have preferred to keep my PSL and PV separate but everyone else I know who works for other companies also has a PTO bank. SF has done a lot of self-serving and sh--ty things of late but this just caught us up with the rest of the business world.

No. I think he means how one should run a business if it's going to lay-off or otherwise demotivate thousands of people. If not for those factors, it would just be considered standard business practice.

Overall I like one bucket of PTO instead of separate vacation, personal, and sick days. Before it was too easy for people to abuse sick days when the weather was nice and they didn't feel like coming in. There is one drawback. You get more people coming in sick so colds and flu spread like wildfire.

Maybe they just got tired of the fact the company did not want to worry people about those hours, that they require them to work, when they have more important matters to attend to, such, as paint with wine (Art Class), Laser Tag, "WHO TO LAYOFF NEXT, TO MEET MY NUMBERS, WHO HAS MORE KIDS, WHAT ARE THEIR AGES, DO YOU THINK THEY WOULD LIKE TO KEEP THEM OR WOULD YOU COULD WE GET YOU TO CONSIDER FOSTER CARE" in order for them to keep their previously called careers, now just a job with MISERABLE, DEHUMANIZATION GROUP PEOPLE.....not human. State Farm was a great company when times were different. Now it is only of when might I get new INFO about them being sold to CHINA, INDIA or some other country. Good bye and sad to see you go. Go down the toilet.
