Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

Are we the infrastructure for Amazon GO?

Anybody else here afraid that the purchase of Whole Foods was actually a way for Amazon to get a network of stores for its Amazon GO experiment?

Pruning the staff a little bit at a time makes sense if they want to have minimum employees once they want to make the switch.

Just another thing I've been worrying about lately.

Self checkout is in the works for this year.

The fact that we have no self checkout looks pretty bad. People know we are owned by Amazon who are supposed to be all about tech yet they stand in long lines looking at 10 closed registers and one bagger. Meanwhile every other supermarket has had self checkouts for 5+ years.

It’ll b a miracle if they pull it off to switch to amazon go on all stores. Tech is so hard n expensive. Not doable on 40k+ square feet stores. Too many variables to control. Are they still going to minimize personnel? You bet they will. But not as drastically as amazon go. Ssi might b next. Look for walmart’s robot scanning isles for tags n empty shelves online.

I think you are absolutely right. Bezos was aptly described in another comment as a "trans humanist nut job". He does not care about people, or his employees and their lives, children or families. He likes shiny, efficient robots, not those pesky humans with all their needs and demands for things like decent working conditions and living wages. So keep that in mind and plan accordingly to take care of yourself.
