Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Question for Claims...

We keep hearing “if this is approved”. Well.... if it’s not then what happens? Why would they give us a QTD of July 31 and opt-in forms due by 22nd if this has not been approved?? Someone help me get this! Please.

Too many, I am in estimatics as well and live in a metro mid sized city. They are no cutting us all out yet as they have to get all their ducks in a row. I have said for years a good estimator can provide great service to the customer and save the company a bunch of money, however their has always been some deadwood lazy or incompetent appraisers that the company should have fired years ago but instead they preached to the choir and put the rest of us through this hell. Now with all the micro managing and useless metrics, the worst appraisers look good because they play the numbers game and good appraisers have to go behind them and supplement their mess and then the good appraiser gets dinged for writing it correct. The shops are now running wide open and quality is suffering because they killed the select service reinspection program. What a mess.

In the initial meeting I was on they basically stated it was very highly likely that the plan would be approved and they left it at that. There is a tiny sliver of hope kept open somewhere in the back of my mind that somehow the whole thing would get tossed out but...

Me? Auto Estimatics with great numbers except the one number that counts: my zip code. I understand we're overstaffed in my area. But instead of cutting 6 people down to 5, or 4, or 2...they're cutting everyone loose & just letting the body shops take over. Some of those shops, not a big number but enough, truly hate & despise our company with a passion & are truly adept at finding new & exciting ways to screw us. On the ground, in person, we can catch them & save the company $$$ but I've seen what they get away with when they send estimates in to single-bid. Oh, well. Maybe it will all work out on the Farm. Maybe not. I'll be okay, but I'm not sure about the Farm.

If you read the HR guidelines on severance, ANYONE who opts our is voluntarily severing. Read every definition carefully and the only thing they could say to push “involtary” on you is that these packages are only for an “approved” plan.

If someone has in writing from hr that the plan is considered approved if it takes place then those who opt out should receive voluntary severance.

OP here. Thanks. I am one of many in a zip code that has too many. Having to compete for my job as well. So the plan has been approved? If that’s the case, then why don’t they just tell us? I figure in 3-5 years Independents will replace all of usb”field” employees anyway.

@SicaIo0-nxx - The thumbnail version of the Proximity re-org goes like this: Fire Proximity, Weather Proximity, L&D (Trainers), SIU, Re-inspection & Auto estimatics are going from roughly 8000 in the field to around 5000 with a QTD date of 7/31. Someone(s) well above local management made staffing decisions based on zip codes for Fire proximity. If you were the only one in your territory, you were fine. If there were multiple people in the same zip they are competing for jobs and will have to opt in, or opt out. If they opt out they are done 7/31 with an involuntary severance package. If they opt in and don't get picked, they will still be done 7/31 with the same package. Of course the gorilla in the room is that your job will not be determined by job performance, but simply by where you live. Kinda sets the mood for how they may treat other areas don't you think??

Here is the main problem though: The announcements were made and people were told all of this and more specifically, told they were fine or that they were screwed all before the plan was approved by corporate. Poor execution on a lot of levels...

I asked the question to HR and have a written response, that I saved. It says if the plan is not approved, then nothing happens, everything stays as it is right now. I have never heard of a plan not being approved, so all this is probably for nothing.
