Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

Huge rebound ahead

Most of the trolls here are probably sour grapes who have been let go. Seriously, we feel for you, wish you well, and know it could be us next. But what is being misrepresented and lost in this weird bickering is the truly magical feeling of change and optimism that has recently swept the company. Never in my 25 years here have I seen this level of strategic thinking, opportunity, and passion fusing into a such a clear and powerful path forward. Everyday I wake up bursting with excitement, thinking I can’t wait to show the world what we are up to!

Whoever defended now ex-CEO and the huge rebound, your executive management coolaid pouring executive just went bye bye. Thankfully. No tangible results or turn around are visible or evident. She is rich beyond our comprehension while failing miserably. plain and simple. Failed with a capital “F” on the report card.

To the subject and author of this original “huge rebound ahead “, recent disclosures of MGO 2017 compensation of 31 milllion fuel resentment to a new level at Mattel. For a rebound to occur, you need ground level employees on you side, these lottery winning compensation packages for utter failure prevent that. MGO has alienated and lost employees , in addition to being POS leader!

The stock might rebound if it goes low enough. Low enough for some institution to take over Mattel and sell off the parts that are worth anything.

Clearly the OP is someone from HR, who's sole role is to dupe unsuspecting millennials into think that the End of TRU doesn't mean the End of BRU. Here is the woeful facts that you need to face:

1) 20% of Mattel's revenue came from TRU - including many exclusive programs

2) Mattel has been systematically diverting all funding from all other brands to Barbie to artificially prop up her sales. Not only does this s--- the life out of all the other brands, but it does no good for Barbie who continues to decline.

3) HotWheels depended on TRU to showcase their brand and drive higher pricepoints (the only skus they make any real money in)

Mattel is a company supported by a one-legged stool (Barbie) who now has an irrevocable trend - it will NEVER get any better because girls don't play with Barbie any more and all of Richard's liberal grasping at straws (man-bun Ken, body variety Barbie, Famous women) just alienate Barbie further from her true audience of 3 year old little girls.

It won't be a 10% layoff, but a filing for Chapter 7. It happened "lightning fast" TRU, and Mattel is the same type of company: Bad decisions over a decade ago, too reliant on one source of revenue, greedy BoD and Management team making the stock price higher at the expense of all the brands. Last year when TRU and Mattel partnered on the abortion of a show called The Toy Box, it was clear that these two companies were like two drunken friends holding each other up as the crossed railroad tracks when the lights were flashing. The train already hit TRU - what makes you think it's not going to hit Mattel even harder?

I share the OP's optimism, not because Mattel currently has total assets of around $3 billion compared to $5 billion in total liabilities.

This website is really helpful for getting different, sometimes unheard perspectives. But often in threads like this it is one troll talking to another troll, like Russian election propaganda intended to sow confusion and discord. So before we take any of these comments seriously, tell us an insider fact. Some examples...What’s for lunch in ES? What color shirt is CS wearing today? What WONDER values are captured in this week’s all-company email? Thanks in advance for your cooperation!

The originator of this post and the last post writer working on “ amazing future forward initiatives “is not seeing things in clear perspective. From a brand marketing perspective Mattel is hurting big time and financially wounded. If you are in the gym, go work that muscle between your ears, it has atrophied just as Mattel has.

I am surrounded by great teams working on amazing future forward initiatives. To the naysayers, you are either on the outside or working in some different campus, who knows? Sure, the toy industry as a whole is down, due to tech competition and changing consumer habits. But these transformational times are absolutely the most exciting time to be leading innovation – and the excitement all around me is undeniable. This website is a funny alternate reality to visit for a laugh.

Yes, RD and MGo selling shares in the mid-teens and Moody's downgrading Mattel's debt again last week makes me feel real good.

To all the naysayers, first quarter earning season is right around the corner, I hope you've got your forks and knives ready because once you see the real, tangible results of M-Go and RD's turnaround materializing, you're all going to be eating huge, heaping portions of crow. Yummy.

Actually Huge Rebound - YOU are the troll!

What are YOU doing here .... bursting with excitement and all that?

This blog is THE LAYOFF! It is about layoffs...

Maybe your change and optimism doesn't really belong here.

Maybe sour grapes do.

Is there any chance that the OP isn't Richard d---son?

The only way this company will rebound is if we bring Bob Eckert back to turn things around. Maybe if we offer him enough he will come out of retirement and save us! He did it once, he could do it again.

@OP: Yeah, nothing but upside! Upside yo' head, son. Spare us your boundless optimism and unending enthusiasm. That was played out long ago when our stock was in the thirties. Now that a share costs two happy meals, your bubbly words fall on deaf ears. Spread your joy elsewhere. See if you can find anyone who hasn't been poisoned by drinking the koolaid for the past 5 toxic years.

Yes, Wall Street feels that confident too(not), probably 80% of the company is interviewing this week urgently trying to leave and you don't have any execs or board members buying stock, they are actually selling. Now that is confidence.

You must be a mindless, new world order dreamer to have made that comment. Many good people get laid off from companies and they have the right to share information and vent if needed. As, for me, I wasn't laid off by a company, I quit a dying company because I could.
