Unless I just missed that part of the call I didn't not get that vibe. They are going to sell the CLEC consumer division to anyone with a buck or two that's for sure and they have shopped around various dark fiber (owned facility and IRU unused) in both CLEC and ilec areas (KDL) as it's just flat not being used... However if it's pre EarthLink fiber Windstream doesn't technically own it so that is why you haven't seen the news stories about them selling it, as all they can only sale the lease... unless the brother Gundermans are doing some sadly back room dealings... NOW would they spin off or sell ILEC for the captial or to flush out some of the debt.... Absolutely... But there still value there, value the management of this company has pi$$ed away but still... I would be tempted to follow the ILec holdings to whatever company it goes to if they sale it or the future bankruptcy... CLEC and services (the beloved Enterprise bu) is a high competition low margin business and we sadly don't have a bucket to pi$$ in...

ILEC has carried this company and you are correct..ILEC is “owned facilities, infrastructure...CLEC is a leased/rental facilities, infrastructure...CLEC has taken Windstream down the path of no return!

@idiots

You are correct about the results of the Q1 earnings. If you listened to the earnings call and TT's road show you would think differently. The longevity and maintenance of the copper network exceeds what the board want to spend on support. We are pivoting the business model to become a software and hardware company and not a broadband provider.

Correction 592.3 million not 5923 .3 MILLION ...

That Enterprise but only starts looking good when you add in the wholesale bu which like the ILec holding have excellent margins and good net of 778.0million and gross net of 540.3million or 69.4% margin... Why does ILec and wholesale/carrier have such good margins?.... Because we own the network!!

People.... Ilec has the best margins at 57% and while it only brought in 1.9 billion it gross net was 1.13 billion for 2017 year end... While your precious Enterprise that y'all all say "the money is in... Derp" has some real $hit a$$ margins of 19.5% and while it did have WAY more revenue it still has by far more cost thus the crappy margins... It brought in 2.98billion but only had a gross net of 5923 .3 MILLION it brought in half the net of the ilec holdings... Come on people... I am glad y'all are not the CFO.... We would be more screwed then what we already are.... Read for yourself on the latest earnings report....

I have applied for other jobs like crazy. They are not replacing people in positions. They open positions, and then close them. I think they are going to shut ilec and keep enterprise. That is where their money is coming from. Layoffs will happen in the next few weeks. I am getting out while I still can.

Taking the governments money is one thing, but did Windstream live up to their commitment to fully deploy the areas that were granted government funding?

Windstream has always been great at taking the governments money on serving the ILEC territories, it is their financial commitment to the customers to over build those territories that is the issue.

Mike is absolutely correct.. Ivan Seidenberg former chairman and CEO of Verizon Communications Inc stated that copper is dead in a comoany wide conference call back in 2007 or 2008 i believe .. he didn't have much faith in FiOS either but I think that turned out well for them. Any way you look at it.. copper IS dead.. the foreseeable future Prophet will all be Enterprise business as well as Wireless

@Oh no

Yes they are shopping around the ILEC business. Like others have said there is little long term value in it. This is why Vs spun off or decommed their copper networks. Enterprise and carrier will be the new WIN going forward. If you or the products you support are not part of this (UCaaS or SD WAN) there is no future.

So are you saying if I don’t work in Enterprise or Wholesale I should find a new job? Sounds like Ilec will be auctioned off

Nothing's happening today. They announced earnings today and wall street didn't like what they heard. Stock is down about 5% today because of it. TT Said the company is pivoting but there are hurdles ahead. They are shopping around the CSMB business and some other fiber routes. Any of the positions aligned with these BU's will likely go away. I would expect a big change or announcement mid July but before Q2 earnings are announced.
