Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Didn't happen soon enough

Every post on here seems to be some kind of conspiracy theory about 50+ workers. Why would that me? Could it be because you don't have any skills?

I survived the purge because I've kept my skills relevant. And every day watch a bunch of useless "business analysts" shuffle from meeting to meeting, opening every sentence with "Back in the day" and taking home a fat salary based on 25 years of COLA and merit increases. For now.

I also hear all about how you "built this company". Built it how - with great deliveries like BMSP, P&C One, Client 2.0, and ICP? Moaning about how great the culture was, when you didn't have to do any actual work but still got lifetime employment and a pension?

When your QTD rolls around the rest of us can get to work cleaning up the 40+ years of technical debt you "company builders" saddled this company with. But hey, don't worry, with all your mad skills I'm sure you'll get another job ASAP! Unless, that is, if there's no openings for people who leave every day at 4:15 and b--ch about only getting 6 weeks of PTO a year.

My only complaint with MT and friends is that they didn't fire the bunch of COBOL/PL1/assembler programmers sitting in K2 s---ing down executive salaries years ago.

People with 30-40 years are retiring and not even a handshake and thanks for your dedication. Some are not able to get their full pension. This used to be a family run business. We all cared about each other and customers. When is this company going to figure out that making people accountable is one thing but being on this behinds to made the SLO with the work and also taking 30-40 phone calls from angry customers. Horrible

It's sad whenever anybody loses a job but if you're going to lose your job, losing it when the economy is doing good and there is a 3.9 percent unemployment is the time. Looking for the silver lining here.

I have been through a number of layoffs and almost always it was the older workers who were targeted. The fact is that we all get old and you won't have any choice about it. If the company you work for is getting rid of older employers, what make you think that it will be different for you? Everyone thinks that they keep their skills up to date, but your are not going to compete on up to date skills with someone right out of college. It is experience and applying those skills that counts and once companies lose sight of how available that experience is, well they don't care, and are just looking for short time employees.

Younger workers who think that they are immune from the shifts in our work relationships, are naive, and lack perspective. They should be worried, but don't see the danger yet.

This guy is a JA. I have been with the co 30 + years. Been loosing my job for at least 20 of those years. Some of the old rumors coming true. And yes. Clearly they are targeting 50 plus years of age as they are the highest paid. Kept my skills up as many have. Doesn't matter in this. No ryme or reason. Heard they may just be using the all famous "randomizer" to cut people. Yes. They are that stupid.

No on cares if you call "BS."

But the truth is, I interviewed for my first job about 2 weeks before my QTD and was offered that job, making about 33% more than I ever made for State Farm, with better benefits.

I turned that job down because it required more travel than I wanted.

I interviewed for another job about a week after my QTD. I really wanted that job, but did not get an offer. Once again, pay was higher. Benefits were not as good.

Finally I interviewed at another company. I didn't expect them to make an offer but they did. And yes, the pay is higher. This job, I accepted. Benefits at this job are excellent.

And there's another company that wants to interview me next week that I suppose I'll decline.

Everything I interview for will pay more than State Farm paid because I was making less than the market wage for my local area at State Farm. It's simple economics.

By the way, OP probably does not realize that systems don't happen in a vacuum. If a system is not meeting the needs of its users, one has to ask how that particular system ever got approved for delivery. Generally the explanation is bad requirements, which can typically be traced directly back to the business.

So, blame whoever in claims decided to have Accenture build them a crappy solution and told them what it was supposed to do and then approved the project requirements.

LOL @ the OP responding to himself TWICE.

BTW, ECS was an accenture creation. Not that you'd know that, since you were too inept to get through your interview with Systems.

OP you forgot ECS. That one only took 12years and was near worthless to those of us that have to figure work around every single day in claims.

P.S.

I'm a Systems employee let go in the last round. It took me absolutely no time to find a new job making more money than I ever made at State Farm.

This guy's sad and pissed off.

And I think we all know he's not going to be "getting busy" fixing anything, because he's a useless waste.

Just so everyone knows, this is our resident troll. The disgruntled claims employee who apparently interviewed so poorly for a Systems job that HR literally laughed at him.

Guy's an assclown. Pay no mind to him.
