Looks like the big push will be overseas. Greenville operations are to be wound down. At first, it was discussed that the facility would shift to mostly repair work in the absence of new orders, but the repairs are getting cancelled now, too. Too many dissatisfied customers are sharing their bad experiences with their peers now, and bad news travels fast!

The Schenectady site is a cash draining cancer on the Power Business Unit. The sites manufacturing assets should have been moved out of NY long ago. Ridiculous regional operating expenses, an under skilled and overplayed (militant) union workforce, and a culture of “good enough” technical stagnation has created a frog that will never get its kiss.

I have heard via two personal contacts in executive level HR positions in Boston that moving Schenectady manufacturing operations is the reality. The buisness is just deciding how much to move overseas vs South to non-union friendly states.

It will be a blessing for GE as this productivity loser has been on corporate sponsored life support for to long!

Alstom is already dead, and for very good reason. Would have been dead much sooner if not for the French gov't injecting more money in that loser. Still a Loser!

Sooner than you think and more than you can imagine! By this time next year it will be down to 500 workers and that is being generous I could see less than 500 still employed.

Long Live Alstom!
